Do you know anyone that got a new car on this new Obama idea? Did they get the promised $3500-$4500, or was there "no rebate" on the model they selected for their new purchase? This plan was supposed to stimulate the automotive business. No one I personally know picked up on this deal. how about you?, your friends & relatives?
We took advantage of this deal. It went smoothly. No problems. We really checked into it. Checked out several dealers, and found the car we wanted, and feel we got a good deal. In our area lots of people took advantage of it. The dealer was pleased, we were pleased. Our car was old, only had $1,500 book value, but had been well maintained and we were having no problems with it. We were intending to drive it till it gave us problems, but this was too good to pass up. I wish it could have been given to some needy single mom who needed it for transportation to work, to help her get off welfare, or something similar. I think it's a waste for those cars to be destroyed. I wonder if they really will be, since there's no one to oversee this. Now we all know that car dealers are very reputable, like when they sent flooded cars across the country, and to other countries, so will it get gas guzzlers off the street...I don't really think so. Will it help the economy as a whole...I don't think so. Just my humble opinion.
my husband works for Ford and allot of people are taking advantage of that deal...it sounds good, but havnt done it myself..
we cant afford a new car even with the discount, my dh is working out of town to save up for a car though, weare looking at the 2006 toyota rav4's

I dont know anyone personally but I've heard sales have been up at a few of our local car dealerships.
If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.
Our neighbor across the street did. He traded his pickup (I don't know what year, but it was pretty old looking and rusted) and received $4500 rebate on a Honda Fit. I think he said he ended up financing around $9,000.
My mother (we live in Fl) did it. She traded her 98 Ford Explorer for a new Kia. Said she got 7,000 off...part was cash for clunker and the rest was rebate.
I read in the paper today that it ends Monday but that many dealerships aren't going to do it Sunday because they haven't been getting the money THEY were promised. Go figure.
