Boy scout mamas.........I got a question!

I really, want to get my 6 year old son in some kind of group or activites. He is not really into sports, but really needs to be around other kids, and make friends. I have thought about boy scouts, because alot of my family members had done it in the past. Is it really expensive, to keep up? How much of my or dh time, will need to be spent weekly? I ask because my husbands work schedule is hectic? Is there anything else I should know?

Not sure about boy scouts, but the best way to find out about a troop is by contacting your school to get local info or via http://www.scouting.org/

My 6 yr old is in girl scouts which is kindof similar and we just had to buy the scout uniform, pay $10 national fee and a $30 troop fee (which went toward the troop activities and patches). Our troop met 2x/month.

The parents volunteer as leaders/coleader and there is some training involved. You don't have to be a father to volunteer to lead a cub scout troop. I saw a few moms in cub leader attire at our back to school event earlier this week.

Scouting is really a great program. My brother is an Eagle Scout and I always loved seeing all the fun stuff he got to do, like overnight camping trips to Mammoth Cave in KY, and Boy Scout camp... of course he was older when he did that... He started boy scouts as an 8th grader.
