If you saw and extremely thin and small for age child /spinoff

My children are EXTREMELY small and thin for their ages.  My almost 9 year old is 38 lbs and is 42 and a bit inches tall.  People have made rude and judgemental comments that I don't feed them, neglect them etc etc......it is genetics......I was always tiny too.

til I had 3 children.....LOl.

so the "fat" child thread made me wonder what people REALLY think about my under small kids.....do they think I am a poor parent.....when they don't realize it is medical?  or do people just assume I neglect them.

I had one lady ask in front of my son "what's wrong with him" when she found out his age in comparsion with his size.

just asking for the other side of the coin sake.

When I saw kids that are tiny for their age and very thin I just think oh they haven't hit their growth spurt yet.If I see a child who is just very thin(in this country anyway)I just think eh,just a skinny kid,got one of my own!

my daughter is 20 months old and is only 21 lbs, we started having issues getting her to gain weight after she weaned off the breast at 14 months :(  we take her to a GI specialist and she has to eat a lot of stuff high in fat and calories.

when i see a small child, i think "phew, i'm not the only one with tiny kids".  my MIL is 5'2" and 93 lbs... my grandmother is just below 5 ft and always weighed less, i think it's in her genetic makeup.

For the most part if the child was extremely small for there age I would think they had a medical conditon.  I know 2 children with heart conditions that are extremely little.  If there just skinny or short, I really wouldn't think anything.

I don't think much of it either. My dd is very petite so I know what you mean. Most people think she's only a couple months old and she's almost 7 months.

Honestly just like with the "fat" kids I wonder if the child is getting proper nutrition in his/her diet.  I don't normally think that the child is under fed unless there are other signs.  And yes I may think that there is a medical problem.

Good question.  My son is 14 years old.  He is only 5'1" and 76 pounds.  I always wonder what people think.  Especially when he is with his cousin who is 14 years old - she is 5'7" and about 150 pounds.  They are only 3 months apart in age.  It almost comical to see them together.  LOL
