Vaccinating vs. Non-vaccinating (sp?)

I am not bashing, nor am I trying to start an argument, I really am curious. I am expecting my baby here in the next few weeks, and I have no idea why I wouldnt vaccinate? Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that those who dont vaccinate are wrong, I am simply saying that I DONT KNOW why you would choose to not vaccinate? I never even knew, until I joined CM, that it wasnt a requirement to vaccinate. I thought hospitals automatically vaccinated newborns. Is it not dangerous to not vaccinate? I have always been led to believe that the reason you vaccinate is to prevent your baby from catching an illness/disease that could be potentially deadly to them. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A BASHING POST, I AM OPENLY ADMITTING THAT I AM IGNORANT ON WHY PPL WOULD NOT VACCINATE, AND AM ASKING FOR POLITE INFORMED RESPONSES. Anyone who could help me with this is greatly appreciated!

everyone has their own reasons for why they vax or dont vax...at first i just thought i would...i mean thats what everyone else does right? my mom did it to me and im fine right? so thats what i thought....but as i got further along i started researching...i researched ALL sides, pro-vax, anti-vax, and also about the diseases themselves. i realized that there isnt just one answer, and that for everyone it is different, but you will never know whats right for you if you dont do the research yourself. i mainly was worried about all the chemicals and poisons in the shots, and also how many they want to give at once and how soon. i feel like a 2 month olds body is too small, new, and fragile to have these things injected straight into it, and like 5 shots at once! i decided to skip the 2 month shots. at 4 months, he was supposed to get a lot again, like 5 or something, and i told my pedi to give him TWO shots only, and the two that she saw kids have the diseases the most. i did the same at the 6 month appointment. at 9 months he got 2 shots again, had a horrible reaction (had never been sick in his whole life until this point, so obviously it was bc of the poisons) and i decided no more shots until 2 years+. i want him to get some shots before he is in school and really exposed to a lot of people (right now he is home with me everyday) but there are also some shots that i see as completely pointless. i would rahter him get flu or chicken pox than to inject him with those diseases plus the chemicals. and this isnt just about shots either, i use organic cleaners and food bc i think the little amounts really do add up!! no one shots chemicals may not be that bad, or a little bit of regular baby lotion (non organic) every day, but over your whole life these things add up then you are 70 r 80 with cancer and wondering why...... i just think people need to be more careful about unnatural substances they put into their bodies.

I do vaccinate however i do an alternative schedule. I don't believe it is healthy or good for a baby to get some many vaccines at once. If you want more info you should read The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears.

The Hep B vaccine given at birth and 1 month is to protect against hepatitis B which you get from unprotected sex or sharing drug needles.. I don't see why a newborn needs that vaccine. It's one that could wait until they are older and their bodies can process the chemicals better.

I choose to vaccinate because for us, the benfits outweighed the risk. Plus we are a military family so at times the kids could be exposed to illnesses that they are vax'd against. My oldest ds doesn't need anymore shots till he starts 6th grade other then his second Hep A vax, he has to get that in a few months. The baby is also up to date on all his shots as well. It is really just a personal choice that everyone makes.

I vaccinate my son on the schedule the doctors give.  I trust the pediatrician.  Even if I tried to read up on the various sizes doctors still know a lot more than I do abut diseases, chemicals in vaccines, etc....  It would scare me more not to vaccinate then any possible hysteria about side effects that most of the medical community disagrees with.

I really wasn't that educated about vaccinations after having my first.  He received just about all of the shots on schedule except we didn't do the flu shot or Hep A.  And I delayed MMR and Chicken pox.  I highly recommend you read The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears.  I just finished reading it since I'm expecting baby #2 and have decided to do the alternative schedule.  I wish I would have read the book when I was expecting my first.  I probably would have done things differently.  My son is fine and never had any reactions, but still I want to do the very best I can for my children.  The Vaccine Book is the only book out there that provides an unbiased view of vaccines and the diseases they prevent.  Dr. Sears does an excellent job at providing all the information then letting you decide as a parent which you would like to do (vax according to the AAP schedule, delay/alternative schedule, or not vax at all).  It's only about $15 at Barnes and Noble.  Well worth the money.

Thank you ladies! I will def check into that book by Dr. Sears. I do trust my pediatrician, however, I do agree with the comment about the HepB vax, I never thought about why they give that to a baby....
