I want some opinions on this one. I work in the healthcare field and I am also 13 1/2 weeks pregnant. They are making it mandatory in my state (NY) that all people who work in the healthcare field to get both the regular flu and H1N1 flu vaccine. Now I have no problem getting the regular flu vaccine in a month or two. I am just very worried about the H1N1 vaccine, being so new and all, and being pregnant. I worry more for my unborn child than myself. What would you do? Would you get vaccinated?

Update: Thanks for all your responses and I am feeling like most of you. My son will also be getting the regular flu shot, he is 2, but I don't want him getting the H1N1 vaccine.. Some of the people I work with don't understand my decision on this, because they say it is safe, but I don't.. I need a doctors note stating that I refuse to get it being I work in a medical office, so I will just wear a mask all day.

Update: So I recieved a email at work yesterday from our infection control team in the hospital.  They are now stating that according to the NYSDOH everyone who works in healthcare is required to get the H1N1 flu shot and if not then we will not be able to retain employment here at my job, unless you have a medical clearance like an allergy.. I think that is totally fucked up because being pregnant isn't a medical clearance. So if I don't get the shot I will be out of a job.. So I have to put my baby at risk for this?? that is not fair. I am going to talk to the head of the hospital and express my concerns, but is anyone else finding this trouble that work in healthcare??

No, I would not while being pregnant. With my dd I got shot for the regular flu when I was i 7th month and it was ok for me. But with the swine flu vax, well, they are too new for me and I won't give them even to my kids this season.

I really am still out on a limb about this whole thing.. Yay I have talked to MY OB and my kids pedi and they all keep reassuring me that it's safe and what not.. I have not seen any pamphlet saying anything about it and what's in it and everything else.. I think if its sooooo safe then why are these things not being handed out KWIM to get ppl informed on what's to come and what they will be injected w/.. IDK I just seem like some ppl are being left in the dark about the whole thing. I'm going most likely sometime at the end of the week to get myself and my kiddos the reg flu shot cause we get it EVERY yr when we are NOT vaccinated and its tough on our whole family. I want to take every precaution but I'm like you, I'm NOT putting mine and my unborn child's life at risk OR my kids either.. Once I know more about the vaccine then I will make an informed decision, until then were doing the whole hand washing deal and staying home when sick!

I'm 27 weeks and my doc told me I have no choice I'm getting the flu and H1N1 shots. Well I have news for them I'm not. I have read so much on the H1N1 I'm not sure it is completely safe.

Most of the vaccines will have thimerisol and squalene.  Both very bad.  Also, the first vaxes are going to be Live virus nasal sprays from what I have read.  That is just going to cause the virus to spread more.

I agree with you 100%.  Even working in a medical office, with a hopsital attached I feel like we are not informed enough about the vaccine. People tell me it is safe, but when I ask questions like well was it tested on alot of pregnant women at different stages, they can't answer.. You can't make something mandatory without answers. So I feel safer not getting that vaccine.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and will not be getting either.  I never get the flu shot and don't get the flu either.  My son doesn't get flu shots either.

i am over 30 weeks... in canada the vaccine will be available mid oct... so i am trying to decide. i am surprised that so many ppl said no. my initial reaction was no, but a friend who is a  clinical pharmacist is so pro- h1n1 vac anti conspiracy theory that it got me reconsiering. i dont know anyone who doesn't work in the medical field that wants to get it or advises me to get it, but all docs advise me to get it since  'the benefits outweigh the risks'
