Welcome and congratulations on your pledge! It's a step in the right direction.

Feel good about making your pledge to do something! No act of kindness is small, but spreading kindness is as easy as giving advice to a friend, helping a stranger, or sharing what you have and don't need at the time.

You will be very pleased with the difference this pledge will make in your life. By cognitively deciding to share and spread your love, you will attract happiness to you and your family.

There are no regulations on what constitutes as an act of kindness, you just have to feel confident and pleased with a selfless act you have accomplished.

Coming into the forum and sharing your experiences will inspire others and show yourself how much you have accomplished in writing. So please, feel free to make a post anytime about yourself, how you decided to join the group, what you expect from the group, and of course, any story of what you have done to help your community.

I actually did something that made me feel so good recently. I don't have much money myself but always like to help other people if I can. Here in Halifax there is a yahoo group called "Freecycle" where people can post things to give away or request items they need. My son got a gamecube for christmas and had been given an older sega genesis system with 4 games- he wasn't interested in it anymore after he got the Gamecube so I thought it would be nice to see if anyone on Freecycle wanted it. Well- I never anticipated what would happen next. A woman from a local seniors' organization said she had been looking for a sega genesis system for a 12 year old boy she does work with who has muscular dystrophy. Someone had given him a game and all they needed was the system- How ironic! Or was it! I believe things happen for a reason and I also believe I was meant to help this sweet little boy. He told the woman how excited he was when she came to pick it up- He said- " You tell her god is going to bless her for this". What a sweetheart! I just told her it meant the world to me to help this boy. I am so happy that something that may seem small to some people meant the world to this little boy. I still smile from ear to ear when I think about it. I am so glad I was able to do this for him!

This is such a great story.  It just shows that when we just do what we can, it is enough to make a huge difference for someone.  I DOES make you feel good.  One thing about generosity is that true generosity makes us feel just as good as who we are giving to!  As mothers, it is very easy for us to be generous!  Thanks for sharing!

Hi Everyone!!!!! I'm so excited about finding this group and the opportunity to be around such wonderful people that know their actions do make a difference! I have been motivated this past weekend to put my compassion into action by HH the Dalai Lama at Seeds of Compassion in Seattle. It was such an amazing experience and since Sat. I have been wearing a necklace with just simply the word kindness written on it. This necklace has reminded me every-time I felt like judging someone or getting mad at the Taco Bell drive through person (lol) that now was the perfect time to put my compassion into action and be kind. I got back home last night and even my hubby commented on how kind my voice sounded. :) I'm so excited to have taken this pledge... and a big step in my life! I love you all.
Peace, Love and Namaste!

Namaste!  It's great that practicing compassion can be so easy in everyday activities.  I just see it as each person who arises destructive feelings inside me is another opportunity provided to me for this practice.  Once you do it once or twice (and surprise yourself at that!) you'll feel so good about yourself you'll be addicted!!!

Greetings Fellow Peace Makers!

I am in deep gratitude for having found this gathering place of inspiration and support. The positivity and hope that comes from people creating change is awesome!
Before my daughter was born 10 months ago, I was a member of Americorps (the domestic Peace Corps) for two years. Everyday I served in the public schools (a middle school the first year and a high school the second year) as a mentor and tutor for at-risk youth. Then after school I facilitated a youth empowerment through the arts program at a local community center.
On the weekends I'd participate in different community service projects - volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help out in low income housing areas, working with the Dream center to help feed the homeless, helping with fundraisers to get scholarships for kids to participate in sports and art programs, becoming certified in Community Emergency Response Training to be of aid in the event of a disaster, cleaning up local public spaces, building playgrounds in parks, working on murals to beautify urban streets... the list goes on.
Last year I led a team of 50 AmeriCorps members to go through Civic Engagement - a process where we figure out what the needs of the community are and then create a service project to meet those needs. We decided to create the first walk-a-thon in our city, called "The Dream Walk" to raise money for creating a Drop-in Center for the homeless to have resources (computers, phones, mail, showers, laundry, food, etc.) to help them find jobs and housing. We raised over $6,000 and a ton of amazing donations. After a lot of struggle and trying to find an affordable location, I'm now happy to say that this year the Drop-in Center is open two days a week for the homeless. It has already helped several people get off the streets! Yay! :)
The two years I spent in service kept me extremely busy and incredibly happy because I was rewarded daily with the knowledge that I was helping to make a difference in the world. That is what I live for!!!
Since the birth of my daughter, I have been a stay at home mom (which has been really surreal - I've been working since I was 17). I am eager to start making a difference again and I know that being in this group will give me just the push I am needing! I look forward to swaping inspiration with you all.

Peace to You,
Chatara

Welcome AstralDancer!  I'm so glad to have such an experienced mama in the group...it sounds like you have had the opportunity to do many great things in your community, and I can imagine how great doing those things made you feel.  What was your motivation back then?  The euphoria of doing nice things?  I've found you can easily become a "nice-oholic", which is such a great addiction to get into!

Welcome and I look forward to hearing more from you! :)
Peace!

I know it's late in the game; I've been in this group for a while, but I'd just like to introduce myself, my name is Karyl, or you can call me averill, either way. I'm a SAHM with 2 fabulous daughters, one being a toddler, the other a newborn.  I heavily believe that positivity and good deeds are underrated in this world, and I live in a wonderful county that promotes peace and unity so I feel like I belong here.  Therefore, I belong in this group because Barbara made it that way.

Just an aside... I was driving one day and it was raining.  I saw these older women on the corner of the main intersection in our town, out with umbrellas, freezing their chootzes off, wearing black.  They were holding a banner that said Women In Black.  I parked the car, ran through the rain to the local market to get some coffee and cocoa.  I got two each.  I walked triumphantly out to the four older ladies, and handed out the coffees.  They were kind of bewildered, and that just added to my merriment.  This is the type of person I want to always be.

Hi my name is Mandy.  I'm 29 years old and married to the love of my life, Robbie.  Between us we have 6 kids.  I am always offering random acts of kindness in my everyday life.  I have been a member here for a few weeks but have just enjoyed reading but wasn't ready to begin posting yet.  I guess I am done being a lurker and ready to help create change.  I look forward on sharing this journey with all of you beautiful women.
