I've been reading about it and finding that the Casein in it is different from the Casein protein in cows milk. From what I understand, it's the Casein (mostly) in cows milk that makes it so bad for people. I also have strong feelings on the treatment of the cows and what they have to go through for humans to drink their milk. I have not done a whole lot of research on goats and their milk. How do you feel about goats milk? Would you give your baby goats milk, cheese, etc.? What do you think is the best alternative to cows milk for babies?
Well, it depends on your ideology... if you are vegetarian/vegan from the animal cruelty standpoint, well, comercial harvesting of goats milk is still taking of an animal product in a manner that may or may not be exploitive... personally, I don't know, so I wouldn't hazard a guess. If you do it for health reasons, you would need to do your own research and see if the reasons you forgo cows milk allow goats milk consumption.
I agree with you about the commercial harvesting, etc. For that alone, I will most likely not go that route. I guess I am more curious about it from the nutritional standpoint and wondering if anyone knew more about it, gives it to their children and if so, why. I did a little research and found that it is easier to digest, different casein, etc. However, I still don't think it has any more benefits than eating greens for calcium does or just drinking the different milk alternatives; almond, hemp, rice, etc. Drinking goats milk isn't something I have ever considered and am just hearing about it now that I've been doing a little research on milks and choosing the best alternative to cows milk for my baby. Looks like he will be nursing until he's at least 2 for sure!

This is just my personal opinion, please don't take offence..
To me it's not natural to drink another animal's breastmilk. It's not made for our consumption and it's not good for us. My children breastfeed till at least 2 getting that whole milk from me(DD just weaned at 2yrs8mo on her own, I am sure due to my pregnancy). After they wean and during the weaning process they drink rice milk. We would do almond milk(because it naturally contains calcium) if we could but we have nut allergies in the house. Yes though I will say that goats milk seems to be more easily digested by humans but in the end that milk is made for baby goats, not for adult ones. We are not meant to drink breastmilk of any kind after we have out grown that time in our life.

I would be concerned about calcium if we stopped giving them the goat milk. My husband and I often prepare veggies that are high in calcium, and we eat them, but our kids turn up their noses.
So, I really need to do more research on sneaky ways to get calcium into their diet...
That's difficult if they don't like Soy or Almond milk. From everything I'm finding, it sounds like if you're going to give them animal milk, goat seems to be a better choice over cow and at least you know exactly where it is coming from. Other ways they can get more calcium are fortified breads and orange juice. Maybe you can puree greens and sneak them into baked foods? Greens are probably tough to sneak in. A friend of mine uses some recipes from the book "Deceptively Delicious". She has some luck with that. Good luck!

See, I've been wondering about this myself...we have a goat and we've been giving our children her milk, but it's not much, likeless than a cup a day for each of them. They love the goats milk and they don't really like almond/rice/coconut milk :(

My two daughters refuse milk of any kind- animal, soy, almond... so, they drink fortified orange juice...
Here is a recipe for a green smoothie. You probably have it, but I figured I share the one I have :)
4 cups packed green leafy vegetables (spinach, dandelion greens, collards, kale, and/or other favorite greens)
2 TB.Hempseeds and/or flaxseeds
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/4 cup frozen cherries
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup frozen pineapple pieces
1/4 cup frozen mango chunks
1 medium frozen peeled banana, broken into pieces
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
In a high-powered blender, combine all ingredients and blend on high speed for 60 seconds or until smooth.
Variation: You can substitute 2 cups coconut water cooled green tea, or other plant milk for the almond milk.
Yield: 6 cups Serving size: 1 smoothie ~ 536 mg calcium
