Fertility! I just found out yesterday that we are pregnant with #2! My son, Ian, turned 10 months old yesterday as well. So, I know that I will be hearing from my doctors that I need to eat meat, etc. During my last pregnancy my iron levels were super low and they told me to take iron supplements and eat red meat. I'm sure I will also be told I need more dairy and to start giving Ian dairy and/or formula very soon. I am nursing Ian and will continue to nurse him for as long as I can. I told DH I need a Vitamix blender so I can load up on all of my vitamins and nutrients in order for all of my blood work to come back great! I want to be as healthy as I can be, continue to nurse Ian and have a healthy growing baby inside. I do not want to get lectured by anyone about my diet. Any advise, encouragement, etc. I could really it. I am dreading having to discuss my diet with doctors!
congratulaitons on your pregnancy, and I believe my iron pan prevented anemia in me, I also do lots of vitamin C and nutritional yeast, and the soy issue IMO is bogus, especially given the hormones and crap in animal originated foods.
I'm a vegan mom, who has had 4 vegan pregancies. Dr. jay Gordon is a vegan pediatrician, and Dr McDougall is an Md that is very helpful for folks as well (and he has saved so many folks from health crisises with his low fat vegan diet plans) you can contact them to supplement what you do with others.
I personally perfer the alternative birth route and avoid mainstream doctors when I can, and that includes for preganancy as well.
The Brewer Diet is an excellent diet for pregnancy. It focuses on protein, calories, and salt to build up a healthy blood volume to support the pregnancy. They have diet plans for vegans and vegetarians. Check out blueribbonbaby.org or drbrewerpregnancydiet.com
Hope that helps!
Thank you, that's great to know! I actually asked my Mother to get me some iron pans for Christmas! I will be cooking with those a lot!
I have to say, I was pretty happy with the Doctors that saw me through my first pregnancy, but I wasn't eating a Vegetarian diet at that time. I will have to see what these ladies have to say about it this time around. I will be looking into the Doctors you suggested. Thank you :)

Thank you. I have never heard of the Brewer Diet, I will definitely check it out! I will go look at those websites now. Thanks again! :)

Maybe you could find a vegan-friendly midwife? Where pregnancy and birth are concerned, the farther away you can get from mainstream medicine, the better!

Just a plug for vitamix......we got our a few weeks ago and LOVE LOVE LOVE it :0) That poor thing gets used 3-4 timesa day here!!!
I cannot wait to get this! I have to wait until Christmas though :( It looks amazing! I love that you don't have to cook the veggies and you can turn anything into a liquid shake ~ it's fantastic! If you or the kids have any favorites I would love to hear them!

You can find a great listing of iron-rich foods here: http://www.soystache.com/iron
Be careful with dairy; it can leach iron and other nutrients from your body
many moms successfully tandem nurse.
Find a new doctor!
And, congratulations on your new family member!!
Thanks!
Thank you for the list. I will post that on my fridge! I do like this practice, so I am hoping if my diet ever comes up, I will have their support. I am thinking it never needs to come up though and I am going to do my best to keep these iron levels up! Thankfully I have their support in continuing to nurse. That was a big one for me as my SIL said her Dr. said she needed to stop nursing when she was pregnant with her 2nd baby. Her Dr. actually said " the baby growing inside is more important than the baby that's already here." I thought that was so odd. She needs to find a new Dr.! Thank you again! :)
