There is no group for lactose intolerance on Cafemom...yet. I met someone at school, though, who is vegan so I know vegans do not eat dairy products. I am joining the group to get meal ideas, learn about vegan diet, and hopefully contribute something myself. Does anyone out there have the same issue?

I have tried the almond milk and really really like it. I did not know they made an almond cheese! I was kinda bummed because I had heard that the soy cheese isn't that great and I'm a huge cheese fan! I will definitely have to try the almond cheese. Thanks!

Quoting Syndr:

If you like a very subtle flavor of almonds, a variety of flavors and sugar contents, almond milk is a great replacement. I absolutely love it with cereal and it's light, clean taste, and sweetness (even the unsweetened variety has a slight natural sweetness... though I am amazingly sensitive to all things sugar related) make it easy to drink even right from the glass. The almond cheese products I've tried have also all been amazingly good considering there is no dairy in them ;) Good luck and have fun trying new stuff!

Rice milk is the only one I haven't tried yet. I think I am going to have to get some next time I go to the store. :) Thanks. I've been wanting a good smoothy for sure. :)

See to me that's a blessing in disguise. Humans aren't supposed to drink cows milk anyway. If we were we would have been birthed and nursed by the cows lol. But I LOVE almond milk especially the chocolate almond milk. It's amazing. Gospel milk is an aquired taste and takes a while to get used to. Good luck

everyone is LI to some degree...i didn't know i had issues with dairy until after i stopped consuming it lol piggybackn from what BlessedBe said, humans are the only species that drink milk past infancy AND we take it from another animal...ughhh! (comes from a person that drank cows milk like it was the end of the world up until several years ago haha)

ANYway, i take almond milk with my cereal and to cook with...soy is ok but i can taste soy a mile away...i made the most wonderful lasagna the other day and my 'ricotta' was tofu with lemon juice, basil, olive oil, nutritional yeast and salt and pepper...omg it was amazing...i get a lot of my nondairy recipes from http://www.vegweb.com/, it's been a lifesaver during holidays...watch out for diff words for milk...whey is almost a no brainer but learn what to look for on labels and look at all labels on processed foods because they sneak it in there...who'da thunk they'd put milk in potato chips? (not talking about the cheesy kind either)...

when i trans'd to a vegan diet i thought it was gonna be the end of the world b/c i love smoothies but with the help of a good magic bullet (the jack lalanne one is boss!),  enjoy fresh fruit smoothies all the time now...just throw in frozen or fresh fruit, add a little juice or water and you're in smoothie heaven!
