Why the hell is it perfectly okay for a man to walk around shirtless and NOT okay for a mother who covers her/baby when breastfeeding? How is that fair, acceptable, or nothing wrong with that?! The woman has a perfectly good reason to do so, what the hell reason does a man have? Breasts are for breastfeeding, & that purpose alone, anyone who disagrees is an idiot. Besides, no one (I know I don't!) want to see any guys chest (especially if they're over or under weight!). Why does a mother doing that get bitched at by passers by, but a shirtless man is perfectly okay even though he has no real reason to be?

I have thought the same thing...no one has ever actually said anything to me about breast feeding in public but i know what certain looks mean! I'm sorry, but me breast feeding my child is way more beautiful than some fat ass with his belly out in public...jiggling around like a tub of lard.
	by Intrepid on Nov. 3, 2008 at 6:24 PM I have a theory about this - I think the double standard is a result of men's persistent fixation on women's breast. I mean... lets face it... they never really do get weaned from the breast. So men don't want to see the breast hanging out there with some kid sucking on it out of a combination of jealousy and fear that they're going to regress into dogs, and other women don't want to see it because they don't want to have to concern themselves with what their man's fixation! LOL! Seriously though... I totally agree. I think it's just another example of the oppression of women, and I truly do suspect that it goes back to some pretty archaic, religious beliefs concerning the role of women in society. Women are supposed to be chaste, and the female breast is still perceived by many to be a symbol of seduction.... even when it's only being used to nourish your child.
