My name is Marcia, and I have two twenty-something daughters that I raised pretty much by myself (dad helped a lot financially, but otherwise not so much). When they were little, they used to be embarassed that I had BITCH magazine lying around the house and that I would talk about feminist issues, but now they are both feminists, and my older daughter actually got her BA in Women's Studies. I have been a feminist as long as I can remember; when I was little, I would go absolutely ballistic if anyone told me I couldn't do something "because you're a girl". I fought to NOT have to take home economics in junior high school and wanted to take shop, but this was before that was an option (and no, boys COULD NOT take home ec, either). I am old enough that I attended school when girls could not wear pants to school (except for on special "pants" days). Pants became "legal" daily wear when I was in 10th grade. The down side of this situation was that I devalued anything to do with being female and tended to wish that I had more masculine atributes like being able to completely control my feelings, never cry, never be scared...
Anyway... I was exposed to feminist theory when I attended UCLA and took 2 women's studies classes, and I could not get enough of it! I continued to read everything I could get my hands on and to argue incessantly with anyone I disagreed with about women's issues. I was lucky enough when I was in grad school to be able to teach a freshman writing course based around women writers and feminsit thought. I continue to read both BITCH and BUST magazines, try to pay attention to women in the arts and in general, and usually find myself criticizing movies from a feminsit perspective. Hey folks! I'm Sammy, a 21 year old student who just found out she was pregnant (7 weeks as of today). I am about to end a three year relationship with the father who has started making demands and am going to become a single mother by choice. On my campus I have a reputation for being the crazy radical feninist and a friend even joked that I would be the only person to ever get excited if the baby was born transgender. All in all I am excited to have a baby that I can raise without gender bias and am stoked to be apart of this amazing group!!!
Hello!
I'm a 21 year old hippie-ish momma to my wonderful 20 month old boy. I am a birth and postpartum doula (not quite certified), and aspiring homebirth midwife. I love to read, sew, bake vegan goodies, grow organic veggies, and try to save the planet (among other things).

I enjoy reading, hiking, camping, working out, yoga, cooking, baking, journaling, and the beach :D Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I wish I could be a student forever!

Hello all! I'm new to cafemom and this group. I'm a feminist mama, partnered with a feminist man and raising a little troop of feminist kiddos (ages 11, 9 & 7).

Hi Betsy,
As of right now I'm a feminist "housewife", but I like to think my life is so much more than that. I was SO happy to find a group centered around feminism. Now that I'm out of school, it's much more difficult to connect with those who do not cringe at the term "feminism". Kudos for this group!
Hiya, I am a single WAHM of an almost 3yr old girl, student and firmly a feminist!
