we had her appt at 9:40 this morning. and then an U/S at 2:30.
when i got there i started crying before he even came into the room bc i was so afraid of them having to place a shunt in her head. he talked to me and said the reason they are concerned is bc instead of her head growing on a curve (according to the charts) its just going straight up. so he sent me for the u/s so they could know more.
after sitting at the hospital all day long we FINALLY got back there at 3:30. she wasnt having it though. lol she didnt like that thing on her head! anyways. the radiologist came in there and said that the ventricles looked fine but the fluid surrounding her brain was more then the last time.
between the neurologist & the radiologist, they have said that its either one of two conditions:
1) she just has a big head & theres some extra space so it had to fill w/ fluid or
2) her head is growing to accomedate the extra fluid
she (radiologist) said its a hard one to diagnose so he'll (the neurologist) call me tomorrow but said he doesnt think shes going to need surgery!
I imagine this was a difficult day for you. People can't possibly imagine how difficult it is to wait for news when you have a child that was born premature or with special needs. I remember one time, an ultrasound tech did a test on my son and on a friend's preemie and both tests came back that there was abnormalties in the brain. That was on a Friday and we had to wait for another US on the following Monday to confirm the news but it apparently didn't look good. It turns out (after a horrible weekend of thinking my child was having more severe problems than we were prepared for) that the tech was not used to doing US on preemies and misread the test!!! I was so relieved, but also a bit upset that this happened. I will say that I have had other friend's or preemie moms that I have known that have had some abnormal test results, but nothing ever came of it so I hope that is the way it is for you. Thanks for the update. I will definetly keep you and her in our prayers. Please keep us updated
hey sorry i never saw this! so far we havent had to have it. they wanna see her back around 9 months ld..so another month. im still praying that she doesnt have to have it. it scares me to death to think of it.

I read your post and I thought I would ask and see what the doc said when they called you back. Poor little girl, hope she doesnt have to have it. Did she?
