Hi My name is Tammy I live in Alaska and after many years of being told I would never  be able to have children and after two adoptions (a number of years ago)  I had my first  child in December of 2005 at age 39.  Tristan is now 2 1/2 and I am sure the weaning time is coming I am looking for advice on how to do this is the least stressful way for both of us.  He is only nursing in the morning.  But when he gets tired he puts his hand down my top and says "Tistan drink mommy milk."  I've been telling him, if it isn't first thing in the morning that Mommy milks are sleeping and sometimes that discourges him but other times he is very persistent and says cute things like " peekaboo mommy milks."  or "wake up milks."    Though these may be cute when we are home alone, it isnt cute in public.  SO I guess I have a few questions, how can I restore some privacy here... with a persistent 2 1/2 year old and how do I go about waeaning him, and how do I know for sure that it is the right time?

Would love any suggestions.

I wish I had more advice on this one. My daughter is 15 months, and we're not ready to wean.

As far as when the "right time" for weaning is, I think that's a decision only you and your motherly instinct can make. I applaud you for nursing for 2 1/2 years, you've surpassed the WHO and AAP recommendations!

All the information I've read about weaning has been to do it very, very gradually, and that distraction works the best. Perhaps when everyone wakes up in the morning and your son asks to nurse, you can excitedly say something like, "Hey! How about we go make pancakes for breakfast first!?"

I wish I had better advice on weaning, I imagine it's going to be very hard for me because I love it so much.

Keep us updated if you can.
