Choosing Not to Vaccinate
do any of you ladies sign the waiver at the doc's for no vaccines? i was warned not to because there have been instances where children have gotten sick and the parents were suspected of neglect ( i don't know if they were charged). is this a thing of the past? if my state has religious exemption, does this protect me? i like this dr office, but they said i had to sign it or find a new dr. we are also considering, not decided, on a alternate and very limited vax schedule, but they said we have to sign the waiver in that case as well...can you fill me in?
also, do i have to legally document my letter anywhere...i downloaded a sample format from my state gov. website and just filled it in and gave it to my doc, do i have to do anything else?does this change if we do get a few vax? what do i do for school records if we only have a few? can i still claim religious exemption?
thanks!

by StarMommy77 on Sep. 4, 2008 at 10:39 AMI refuse to do it, no matter how it is worded. I would write, I refuse to sign this. It is a matter of principal for me. Some offices have the 'old' refusal form and others have a 'nicer' one that still says I understand the implications for not vaccinating. And some Dr.s have one that simply says, "I opt out." It has been mentioned to cross out the offending bits and edit as you like.. " I understand that GL! ![]() |

by momofsaee on Sep. 4, 2008 at 1:04 PMThe doctors office form is totally different from the state forms. They are just asking you to sing that to cover their own butts. They want to make sure that you don't come back on them if your child gets sick from NOT vaccinating. Somewhere at sometime, I am sure they have a waiver for those parents who DO vaccinate too. In the many years that I have been doing this, I know I have initialed off on vaccinations (makes me sick). The state exemption is for daycare, preschool, public school. If you choose not to vaccinate, then you won't need a state exemption until the child attends something with the public that requires it. The doctors office forms are at your discretion, but like the nurse said...if you don't sign it, they can ask you to find another doc. I personally would go ahead and move on. Our docs office has never asked me to sign anything to cover their butts. Okay on your others q's....If you even refuse only ONE shot, you must get an exemption for the school. My son is 6 and he had been vaccinated for everything until about ayear ago when they informed me (forcefully, I might add) that he needed ANOTHER varicella..I politely declined and thats when I decided to join this group for the information. I got the exemption for that vaccine and it covers any vaccine. So technically even though hes had all the other ones, I don't have to do it again. I have not had to have any exemptions for the other kids, but I know before its all said and done, I will. The state form and your doc don't have anything to do with one another. My doctor was not involved in my religious exemption. I told him that I did it, but I didn't ask his permission. The schools that allow a religious exemption are state forms or your own letter (depending on what your state requires) of personaly belief that you do not participate in the practice. The doc has NO say in this. THe only reason the doctor would be involved is if you were filing a medical exemption. Just ask if you have any other questions. Many of these moms are even more knowledgable than I am about it. I am very familiar with the exemptions, but as far as the actual vaccines...someone else could answer that.
