by asil on Sep. 6, 2008 at 4:24 PMHa! I hate to say it, but I would like to, but haven't really "prepared" for it. My oldest is only 14 months old, but I guess sooner is better than later... rigtht? I just have to get fiance on board... he pretty much is already, but would like to talk to me about it more when I have more information on it. Any help you can offer? I mean, where do I even start? by Isabelles_mommy on Sep. 6, 2008 at 4:31 PMtheres a few homeschool groups here, i've joined a few. My MIL says right now (since my dd is 2 yrs old) playng with her, teaching her numbers and colors and some letters, is alright, but your just do day to day thing with her and that is homeschooling, now when they get older is when u buy the books and such, for now just playing with them and trying to each them a few things is the best thing u can do( according to my MIL) Quoting asil: |

by asil on Sep. 6, 2008 at 4:39 PMYeah, we do a lot of "learning" fun at home. Colors, numbers, letters, art projects, music... my mom sits for my daughter and her cousins that are 5, 4, and 3. (yeah, she has 4 under 5 LOL! poor gma!) and she does well with activities for all of them when there too. I just need to have something "solid" to show my fiance when she gets to school age, that i am really going to homeschool her. Of course, money permitting... I just haven't really looked into what I will need when she gets Kindergarten age and beyond... I keep putting it off, she can't grow up that fast, can she? LOL! by Mzjelybely on Sep. 6, 2008 at 4:52 PMWe plan to homeschool as well. DS is only 16 months old right now so I'm not really that into trying to teach him a whole lot. We have numbers and letter books, colors and shapes, etc. but I'm not into making sure I do them every day, x number of times a day or anything. He likes learning when we read and stuff but right now I'm not structuring anything. |

by iamom05 on Sep. 6, 2008 at 4:58 PMWe just started homeschooling(preschool). My husband and his 10 siblings have or are currently homeschooled. My BIL is homeschooling their 5kids. No public school for us it just doesn't seem right for our family. We are leaning more towards "unschooling" but we'll see how it goes. Here are some free activity links I think they are mainly for preschoolers though http://www.homeschool-curriculum-for-life.com/homeschooling-toddlers.html http://specialed.about.com/od/wordwalls/ss/fws_4.htm http://www.first-school.ws/theme/alphaletter/f.htm http://homeschooling.about.com/od/langearlyread/Early_Reading_Resources_Alphabet_Phonics.htm http://homeschooling.about.com/od/langearlyread/ss/letterfcolor.htm http://www.dltk-kids.com/crafts/miscellaneous/all_about_me.htm http://www.kidzone.ws/kindergarten/letterf.htm http://bogglesworldesl.com/alphabet_worksheets/letterF.htm’ http://www.dltk-teach.com/ www.kizclub.com |

by catholicmamamia on Sep. 6, 2008 at 5:04 PMProud homeschool mom (and owner of a small-ish homeschool group on CafeMom) here! As a former Pre-School Teacher, I can honestly say I have homeschooled all of my children (ages ten, five, and two) since the birth of my first! Actually, that is partly how I began homeschooling....I was just doing what came naturally, and by the time my firstborn was old enough for Kindergarden, his intellect and capabilities far surpassed those of his peers..and we did have him tested! I feel life offers some of the best lessons, so we use a basic unschooling (basically, the opposite of formal schooling of sitting at a desk with pencil and paper all day) approach....however, a few good textbooks and written work doesn't hurt, either..LOL. |
