My toddlers who just turned 5 were watching TV yesterday while I was washing breakfast dishes. It was PBS so I wasn't even paying attention until I started noticing the song they were singing was about vaccinating. It was Syd the Science kid. The episode was about vaccines and how important they are and how it's okay if they hurtbecause they will "keep you healthy for a long, long time." I crossed my fingers that they were playing with toys at the same time and not paying much attention. No luck. During lunch, they started telling me that I'd better take them to get shots so they "can be healfy [their words]". I spent the better part of 15 minutes trying to explain in 5-year-old terms why Mommy felt like it was in their best interest NOT to take them to get shots, but to make sure they eat right, get enough rest and exercise, and make sure they wash their hands after they use the potty and before they eat anything. Thanks PBS. I guess that's government-funded entertainment for you.

  • my kids do not watch Nickelodeon.

Honestly, while I don't like that they are sending this message to kids, I'd rather my daughter watch that than a lot of the shows on Nickelodeon. On Nickelodeon I've heard everything from "shut up," "idiot" and "stupid." I don't want my daughter repeating those words, and would be much happier explaining vaccine issues.

  • Sid isn't on during our normal tv time so we don't see it much... but it was on yesterday morning when my 2 year old got up super early... i was kinda hoping it would be this episode so i could see it... my older two were in bed still anyway LOL i told my husband about it and he said he never liked Sid the Science kid anyway LOL

I do like PBS otherwise, esp since they don't play commercials... my kids have no clue what Mcdonald's is so when they see it as a sponser they don't ask to go there (if it was BK or DQ it would a whole 'nother story!!) we got a digital converter box a few months ago and we now have Qubo... I do like some of the shows on there but they play commercials and infomercials like mad! it's crazy, my kids haven't seen many commercials in their life thanks to PBS and videos but now its "i want this, i want that, you should get that for you, mom!" so annoying... LOL just needed to vent!
