I know this is a little off topic but you ladies are always so knowledgable that I had to ask. My twin girls are 2 weeks old and I am bf'ing. However, they've hit a growth spurt (my lactation specialist warned me about this) and right now I am not producing enough breastmilk to satisfy both of them. I know my production will pick up but in the meantime I am wondering if anyone has supplemented breastfeeding with goats milk? I was just as the chiropractor this afternoon and the girls got their first adjustments and he mentioned to me that goats milk is the closests thing to breastmilk.
When I got home, I did some research but I am just looking for anyone who has used it. Any insight would be great. I would especially like to know the cost of it!
Thanks ladies!
I used it with my son but it wasn't until he was around 7 months old. I will pm you the recipe that I used.
Have you tried any of the things that boost your milk production like Brewer's yeast, oatmeal, Mother's Milk tea, etc.? I would definitely try those things as well. I made some amazing oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that really helped me almost immediately & they were delicious! Most of the BF info. that I remember is that BF boosts your production more than anything else. I'm certainly not saying that you shouldn't supplement & use the goat's milk but sometimes doing that can hurt your supply. I was a member of the Breastfeeding Mom's group - it can be a major drama group sometimes but they can also be very helpful.
Fenugreek can help boost breastmilk production. I did use goat milk with my son, but like previous poster, it wasn't until he was a bit older. Raw whole goatsmilk worked really well for us when I had to wean early at 9 months. He stayed on it until 2 years old. Just be aware that it can be constipating - causes "bunny pellet" type turds. Lovely.

Will, diagnosed at 18 months w/ASD, non-verbal, no eye contact, no play or social skills. Now 4, VERY verbal, great eye contact, great play skills and increadibly social. He's on the road to recovery with ABA therapy and biomedical intervention.

Just curious... What makes you think you're not producing enough milk? There is a great administrator in the Breastfeeding Moms group named gdiamante. She is EXCELLENT with all this stuff.
I use goats milk on my son. He will be 2 in december. Hes been on it since he was about a year. Im not sure about the goats milk for babies though.
I buy my goats milk at walmart. a quart of it is $4 there. At kroger its about $5. I couldnt find a source anywhere around me that I trusted so Im just sticking with the store brand for now.
My dd has been on raw goats milk since she was 1 week old. And she has had no problems what so ever. I did a lot of reading, talked to 3 midwives and 1 doula and my milk lady. I will have no problem putting my next child on it if they don't take to the breast. I will message you my recipe.
What state are you in and how did you find your source?

Westonaprice.org, the midwives and doula I talked to and my milk lady. I did a lot of reading and questioning. My milk lady said she herself put her baby on goats milk and supplied goats milk for other non breastfeeding mamas.
I live in Michigan.

I know several ladies said they would send you the recipe, that is the most important thing when using goats milk to supplement. I actually found a natural, no vaxing, MD who used goats milk to supplement his own twins :) He said it was the best but you have to add stuff to make it healthy enough. Fish oil and carrot juice were the two most important things. My own son, was half breast and goats milk and honestly when he wasgreater than 60% or so breast I didn't even make up this "formula". He did great and is 1 now and that is the only milk he gets.
Hope this helps, I know there are several recipes online if you need to look up one specific. Also I found out from a friend with an aluminum meter that the can goats milk has a lining in it so the milk doesn't touch the aluminum, that really helps with the cost. In my area the canned is about $1 and makes about 4 bottles. Apposed to the fresh that is about $4-5 a quart and makes about 5 or so bottles.
Good luck. :)
