Curious...How many moms in this forum have looked into the 'safety' of Obstetrical drugs???
I'm curious to find out how many of the moms who are vaccine 'savy' have also researched the dangers of Obstetrical drugs and the fact that they too have never been proven for long term safety?? ...and How many moms chose natural births for this reason?
thanks. :)

I was vaccine educated first. Unfortuantely when I had my son it was in a hospital and I did not even think about all the problems that would follow. No excuses, but I did not have a computer and I did not have CafeMom :-) With the vaccines I just had to read one book-it totally made sense right away. PLus my Uncle is a chiropractor-that helped too.
Next baby will be born at home with midwife. Loved the movie The Business of Being Born.
i did too with my 2nd, and it continued with my 3rd, and 4th too. Unf. my 2nd ended up being breech and an unexpected c-section happened. but after that, VBAC for the next 2, along with a non-medicated birth. I didn't like what i read About the side effects from meds, and i wanted my baby to be alert naturally, and not medicated, either. Another thing to consider, is leaving the vernix on for as long as you can. it nourishes the skin, and keeps it from drying out in the first day. Some hospitals use soap on the baby right away.
Luckily I had an awesome midwife who gave me even more confidence that I could give birth naturally (I had never wanted an epi anyways). Even though I did end up giving birth in the hospital, I wouldn't even let the nurses put an IV in me. This time I'll be having my unassisted homebirth, so I won't have the added aggravation of explaining myself to anyone:)

people who die from VPDs (not cervical cancer, but the other ones) also
have underlying conditions you are told that it is irrelevant and the
diseases are so scary, and get the shots." ~~Just Lily~~
Being currently pregnant I've read alot about what I want an dont want. Unforunately my husband doesnt feel comfortable doing a homebirth or UC. And our insurance doesnt cover a birthig center birth. So I get another hopsital birth. YES i know its my birth experience but I also dont want to make my husband uncomfortable. I got a midwife but she doesnt know my opinions yet. We will see how comfortable she is with the things I want and dont want. She doesnt know my stance on Vaccines yet either. I dont bring it up unless it needs to be. My last appt she mentioned the H1N1 vaccine as I was leaving and i didnt want to say anything in the waiting room with all the other people. I'll discuss things at my next one.
id my research and was set on a natural drug free birth, but it didnt work out that way. My docs and midwives werent too supportive of it. With my second(iused a diffent doctor because I didnt like the first)The were actually pushy with inducing. He was only 3 days late, but they insisted it was dangerous for him to go more than a week over.He was born 9lbs 1oz and they said because of his size and blah blah blah. They were predicting a 7 pounder:) With my first(she was 7 days late). I was in labor 23 hours and after 12 hours they insisted on the potocin because things were going to get complicated or something... I was still one cenimeter... After the potocin I had an epideral , even after I had convenced myself i wouldnt. The pain was too much for me. I was a whimp:) I tried though. I wanted a home birth for both but that is not offered around here...
When i have heard of the epidural for the first time i thought it was the best invention ever and thought that i was going to do that when i have a baby. I am from Ukraine originally and until recently, at least, most women gave natural birth, no drugs, that's why i was so excited about the epidural. But when i actually got pregnant,i started researching and did a full 360.
I did deliver at the hospital, but with a midwife and no epiduralor any other drugs....well, they gave me Pitocin after i have delivered DD, to help my uterus contract, but at that point i didn't care anymore, i was so exausted (3 hours of pushing:). It was a great experience!
Me. I have. They're not safe. Obs have done more harm than good, sadly. They also tell us that everything's for the best, safe, blah blah blah. They're liars. I chose a home birth this time, after learning.

Where do you live? Every state seems to have underground midwives who risk losing everything to be able to help women have births at home despite the laws against it. Also, a mom having her baby at home without a midwife or other medical person is still legal, they can't outlaw it.
