Off Topic: Birth Control Pills

I am seriously considering birth control pills.

I got pregnant with my first using condom/spermacide, and got pregnant again using condoms but miscarried.  I can't trust the natural family planning because my periods are very irregular. 18 days one month, 45 days the next. DH and I have 2 children and can NOT afford to have anymore children, we just can't. I'm so scared of getting pregnant that we have sex once a month! This is really effecting our married... OK, affecting him more than me.  LOL

What are my other options other than birth control pills?

Here's a bump for ya...just not a pregnacy bump.lol. (couldnt resist).  I am worried about this just like you.  We use condoms too.  I am terrified of the BC pills.  I used to use them but since have realized they could kill me and some things Ive read say they dont prevent pregancy but the fertilized egg cant attach to the uterine wall.  This makes me sick so I just cant use them anymore.  I dont know what to do either.

same here! we are not alone lol. We use condoms and i am terrified because we have two children as well and can't afford another right now. We have a two door and it's a pain in the rear to get my 5 month old and two year old in and out, and i am breastfeeding and haven't started my period yet. I want to know of some other forms of contraceptives if anyone is aware of anything else...besides hormonal birth control.

check out plannned parenthood's website..i don't ness like them but their site has a chart with all the different options and the % and so on and so forth.....  I am preg with number 4 and i am getting my tubes tied we are not going to be having anymore!  After I had my ds I was fitted for a diaphram and it worked out pretty well....u still have to use spermicide though.  I didn't like the lack of being spontaneous.  okay at the risk of sounding like a teenager  what about the pull out method?  my DH and I have used that for 4 years and the only times we got preg is when i said not to pull out...( sorry for the wording)  i kbnow it works better for some than others but that is the way we used for a while......

The only safe vaccine, is a vaccine NEVER used!

Love them, Protect them, never inject them!!

I use bc but dislike that I do. But then again we don't want any more children either. So I have worried about it too.

Just like any other medications, birth control pills are derived from a synthetic source or made from things like pig horomones. Yuck. Plus the pill causes all kinds of problems from facial pigment discoloration (my friend Rachel has this around her eyes) to death from bldood clots. Not worth the risks. My husband and I have decided to go the horomoneless copper IUD route, we just had our second and that is it for us. He considered getting snipped but that increases   the risk of prostate cancer too much.

Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility?  I know the NFP method sounds unpredictable, but I bet if you read that, you'll see how much control you really have, and how much your cycle tells you.  Even if you have crazy cycles, your cervical mucous and your temperature will tell you exactly what's going on.  Not everyone wants to take the trouble to do a temp reading every morning though...just wanted to throw this out there, in case you hadn't read the book.  It's a much better idea to me than BC...I'll never take that again, personally!  But if you really don't ever want more children, would dh get "fixed"?

I have had a similar problem.  For medical reasons I can't use most contraception.  I have two rare neurologic/auto-immune disorders which were vaccine damage.  I get infections and am in pain constantly so I couldn't use caps or hormonal IUD's or the pill and I also have poor circulation due to cerebral palsy.  My feet literally turn blue so the pill or any hormones like that would put me at risk of DVT.  I also have migraines so one of them is contraindicated anyway due to the increased risk of cerebral stroke.

We have used condoms sometimes but these sometimes irritate my skin, even the hypo-allergenic ones.

Wanted to try Persona but it said you couldn't if you were breast feeding.

We got the copper only IUD with no hormones and I have to have local anesthetic to do that because of my pain conditions, but I only had that for 3 months because I found out it doesn't prevent conception, just stops the baby implanting so I viewed it as an abortion device and removed it when I found out.

So at the moment we just go natural method with condoms during fertile time.

Not much help to you, LOL.

If you do choose the pill, bear it mind it doesn't work if you have a cold or are on antibiotics.

this is what I did, before my dh had a vasectomy.  You can do this even with irregular periods.

This. I was just going to ask if you have read this book, I was on the pill and now I am on my third charting to avoid cycle. Its actually really easy, and I like knowing what my body is doing.

I don't like bc pills either but I take them bec. I don't want any unplanned pregnancies.  You can even try the paraguard which is a non-hormonal IUD.
