 Hello,

Need some advice.  MIL wants us to have their old carpet.  What they consider old will probably look new and I'm sure it's nice and all but I'm sure they got the scotchguard stuff and I'm worried about what chemicals I would be bringing in.  Our son already had med issues from a vaccine and has gluten, casein issues and doc says he needs to stay away from dyes, preservatives, and additives and he is on an organic diet as much as possible.  He is almost 4 but is always laying all over the floor, naps, and playing.   With all of that being said...should I take the carpet or should I really make her mad and use it as pathways in my garden in between my raised beds.  ALso should I not use it in the raised beds either since I garden organically.  (the raised beds are 2 layers of cement blocks so it's 16 inches off the ground but still?

I wouldn't use it in the house UNLESS you have carpeting that is really old and you NEED it. Carpeting has all sorts of dust mites, chemicals, etc. The best type of carpeting for me is area rugs because they can be cleaned. There isn't padding that stuff gets stuck in. Can you use it in a recreational area like a basement or garage or something?

Our carpet is in real bad shape.  We do not have a garage or basement.  The carpet we have is very old but it didnt have those new scotchguard chemicals on it.  What are the chemicals bad for doing?

If your current carpet is in really bad shape, and you can't afford to get new carpet yourself, hire a professional cleaner (the ones that don't use chemicals when cleaning) have them do a good thorough job of cleaning the carpet once it's installed.

I will have to check around and see if there are any companies that do it ...thank you
