What are the risks of being with recently vaxed toddlers?

My son is now 5 mos. old but I am already thinking ahead and wondering about him interacting with other toddlers when the time comes. I am concerned about him being with a recently vaxed one and catching what that toddler was vaxed for. If he is in a playgroup at church for an hour or so, I cannot ask each mother. Is this a viable concern or not. My son is not nor will he be vaxed.

I don't know that the "real" answer is, but as the mom of a toddler who has never been vaxed I don't much worry about it. I'm sure there is some risk with the live vaxs, but I feel that my son's immune system is completely intacked b/c it's never been compromised by vaxs, so he is better to fight off diseases than those who have been vaxed. For example, a nasty stomach virus is running rampant through our church right now. For most people it is lasting 3-5 days! My son & I had it...it lasted 11 hours for him & 13 hours for me!

This, of course, is just my opinion & I'll be checking back to see what other (more educated mommas) have to say on the subject :)

As an added thought, my son is EBF and may be till his first year. In any event, he will be BF for at least 18 mos unless he looses interest sooner.

Id like to know more on this subject  also. My kids have been vax'd up untill now (4yrs and 3yo twins) I wish they were never vax'd but they are adopted and I had to untill everything was legal.

hi everyone,

I have choosen not to continue to vaccinate my daughter, after she got her 2 and 4 month shots, unfortunetly that is when i started doing research on the subject.  My question is, should she get sick ( god forbid!)  how do they treat them?  i know from now on, i need to start preparing for a complete life style change as far as the foods i will be feeding her, in order to build her immune system stronger.  The thing is i just found out, that me and my siblings were never vaccinated!  i was shocked!  but the thing was, i am 41, my brother is 40, my little sister is 25, and we have never been sick!  except for the common cold, that they had, me the last flu was about 10 years ago, anyway, to go back to the question,  how does doctor's treat the non vaccinated?

Do you breastfeed? That is the best defense.

Every Dr. is different in how they react to you if that is what you are asking. We found a Ped. for our son that does not push vaxing so we are very fortunate. You could call some offices and ask if you decide not to continue vaxing, will they accept your baby as a patient and see how they react. This is what I did.
