Rubella?

So yesterday we went on a date, came back and the sitters said that my daughter had been itching for 30 min. She had been given a bath but was still itchy. She had a rash from her shoulders to her ankles. It is pink, raised spots all over. We thought it was hives and she had an allergic reaction to something she had come into contact with or had eaten. After looking up pictures of rashes....it looks closer to rubella. She has had no vaccines for anything. She is not running a fever or exhibiting any other symptoms. I am 27 weeks pregnant.

was the rash there before or after you went on your date? are you saying the rash appeared while you were gone?  maybe the sitter had pet dander on her clothes...that can cause a rash like that...rubella is a disease with a fever and rash that lasts for at least 5 days.

She had dry, irritable looking skin earlier in the day. but the rash that she now has seemed to appear while we were gone. Last night her lymphs were slightly swollen.

Were you immunized as a child? You should be ok then. Rubella isn`t common so not likely butnot impossible

Shoulders to ankles sounds like what would be in contact with her clothes.  Are you sure it's not laundry detergent or softener?  What do you use?

Oatmeal is wonderful for the skin.  Put it in a stocking and then in her bath water.

If it turns out to be rubella, find out if you had a titer done when you got pregnant.  At my OB/GYN's office, it is a standard part of the first visit blood work.  With my last pregnancy, they told me the vaccine wore off (shocker) and I was no longer immune to rubella and to be aware if there was an outbreak or anything.  Good luck, hope she is feeling better soon!

My oldest daughter had a confirmed case of rubella when she was 18 months. Her rash didn't seem to itch her. It started at the top of her head and then progressed down to her chest and stomach but not her legs(which the doctor said was normal). She had a fever for 2 days and the rash lasted about 5 if I remember right.

Okay....so I took her to the peds yesterday. Based on his observations and assesment, he does not think it is rubella or 5th disease but another viral rash. She was tested for strep and it was negative also. My titers for Rubella are 107 so WELL within the immune range.
