vaccines and nursing school

So I am starting nursing school in June in California. It is a state university, but they have asked us to do some titere checks and get vaccines as needed.

I am having issues looking up what my rights for exemption are. Can someone give me some solid information? The nursing school said there are no exemptions allowed. It seems unfair, so I have been doing my own research but getting no where. I just want to leave myself room to fight this if need be. All paperwork is due April 4th.

Thank you. I have read that page and it was no help either. I have wrote the nursing board but haven't received a response.

:( ya I took a look after I posted and it didn't seem helpful. Hopefully you are able to work something out, but I have a feeling you'll have to get them...

I have seen this issue brought up a lot and no one yet has found a way around getting the vaccines...if you do, please let us know how you did it.

There was a case in 2009 where some nurses in New York refused the flu vaccine. They were told they would lose their jobs if they didn't get it.  My mom is a OTA and she was afraid they were going to force her to get it. The hospitals in Ohio are starting to require all employees, including cafeteria workers, janitors, etc., to get them. They're threatening loss of job also. I think you have a real fight on your hands IF you can even find something to support your case. People have commented in these cases that since you chose to work in that field you have to comply or you should have chosen a dfferent line of work. I don't agree.

they over turned that ruling in new york and didn't force the nurses due to the lack of vaccine available and the lack of testing done on the H1N1 vaccine.

Id fight it all the way. Don't give in. The more people that stand their ground, the less we all get harassed. An attorney that deals with vaccine rights should be able to provide you with a letter to get in. I'd Google one. The nvic May also know of one. I'd probably start by calling the NVIC

Any school that takes government money has to take exemptions. They may just either not be aware or are trying to get around it. If they take PELL its govt money

Its not so much the nursing school that is requiring them.  I have attended this university for my other 2 degrees and getting an exemption was easy.  But during nursing school, I will have placements at up to 16 hospitals and each hospital has different requirements to be able to operate at their facilities.  So the nursing school has a listed of required things we have to complete before we start so whatever site they place us at we can go to.  Its like getting all of the knots out before there is an issue.  I am just trying to figure out 1 - can I be kicked out of the nursing program for non-compliance? 2 - can hospitals really require vaccines and if so are there ANY chance for exemption whether is flu, tdap, hep b, etc.

Will shot records work? I was able to. I got my dr to do a medical exemption for flu bc I'm still bfing. Told her I refused to get it. She agreed with me. Next year don't know what ill do. OSHA has a form for refusing hep b. You cab try that. It gets you out of the mandate for hep.
