We have decided that even though whooping cough is going around we are going to stick with our guns and are NOT going to vaccinate for it. Our girls are healthy and even if they get it, it shouldn't be life threatening. However, my youngest has had a nasty cough for a few weeks and it got me worried. I'm just wondering, how would you treat whooping cough in children if they had it? Would a DRs visit/meds be required?

We had it here and just rode it out. No doc visits. It is indeed the "100 day cough."
I was wondering if it was safe to just ride out, considering we are all very healthy otherwise - with the exception of Saff and her asthma/allergies.

I read through many of them, but sometimes I just like a personal answer. :)
oh, i see.....well, if it were my kid, i still would not vax either...and they have to do a culture to see if the bacterium is present to be certain. Would i give antibiotics if positive? Absolutely. My kids are prone to bronchitis, as one is asthmatic, and the other seems to have outgrown his asthma..he's 16 now and hasn't had to use the nebulizer in a few years. But why take chances of inducing it? If WC were to come in our house, i'm sure my ds would be using the neb too..

Choosing Not to Vaccinate-proud group owner
My 10 month old has had a cold for a good1.5 months now. I am thinking it may be WC. She still has it not as bad now. She is not vaccinated. The more I read in the Vaccines book by Neil Miller the more concerned I become of vaccines.
I went to a class about vaccines and WC came up. The pharmasist said that by giving antibiotics doesn't help. Everything is symptomatic. And in the book it says that it brolongs it by 5 days.
Do what you think is best or what you find with research on different ways to treat.
Im still researching. My LO is 10 months old and have been researching for a good year if not longer. Find something new everyday. :)
