My dilemma

DS #2 has not had a single vaccine in his very young 8 months. We're still on the fence a bit about whether we're just delaying or opting out all together, but for now, he's completely unvaccinated.

DS #1 has been fully vaccinated up to this point. He just turned 5 this summer and is entering his second year of preschool in a couple weeks, with his school physical coming up on Wednesday. I believe he is due for a couple vaccines, but because it's just preschool and not kindergarten, we may be able to get by for this year (if I am reading Ohio's requirements correctly and remembering his shot record correctly).

Here's the quandry. And no, it's surprisingly not the issue of shedding vaccines around the 8 month old, although that is a bit of a concern. Reuben has already had all of that crap injected into him (and I regret it, but had some unusual circumstances way back when), and he's also old enough to be able to tell us what side effects, if any, he's experiencing. However, he has a seizure disorder that, as of his most recent EEG a couple months ago, is not anywhere near as controlled as we thought it was. Official diagnosis is intractable seizures (not controlled by medication), and I can't honestly say that it WASN'T caused by one of the many vaccines. According to the CDC's own information, until his "neurological status" is "clarified and stabilized", he should not have the DTaP, which is one I believe he's due for (others are possibly IPV, MMR, and chicken pox). His particular seizures are absence (staring spells), but he has had two grand mal seizures and one of those was said to have been caused by a fever from a sinus infection - one that wasn't really unreasonably high (102).

So...do I say no vaccines at all because of the risk of fever? No to the one that the CDC says he shouldn't have but okay to the rest since he's already had them? No because of the risk of infecting baby brother? Or just pray I can talk the doctor into waiting until next year when he's in kindergarten...knowing he'll be homeschooled at that point?

Input please!

Honestly I wouldn't give he more shot just because he has already had so many and any of those reasons you gave are good!
I also wouldn't vaccinate him when he went to kinder, not only because I am anti vax but because it could aggravate his condition and he may have to miss school because he got vases for school...

1 mom liked this

Delay for now, as you have NO idea what injecting him could do at this point, and neither do his drs...you can always sign a religious waiver if need be, and it doesn't matter if your child previously recieved vaccines, because your beliefs can change at any time.  And if he is going to be homeschooled, why even think about taking a chance that something could go wrong?

why should that child have some but not your other child?

I agree with both pps. It's too dangerous, IMO, as any neurotoxin is horrible for a healthy person, I can't imagine what they would do to someone prone to seizures. My guess is that you could probably get a med exemption, and even if you couldn't you could get religious.

I just think it's far to big a risk. One thing you need to remember is that our bodies are incapable of detoxing these toxins, they build up and, therefore, can create bigger and bigger reactions everytime they are injected in a body.

I would say NO to any more vaccines!!!  Another thing you can do is have them draw titers on him for ALL of the vaccines.  If his titers are high enough he won't have to have any more ever.  Just another option.  It would get your ped to leave you alone.

I just did waivers for my dd's in prek and k in Ohio, med, religious, and philosophical so it was easy and they didn't even blink at it. Prek dd hasn't had any since 18 mo and was still not technically required to get anymore right now and my k dd was only behind by 2 or 3. I personally agree with the pp's, I definitely wouldn't give them Bc of the disorder, my oldest had a seizure after a dtap but it stopped and drs said it was just congestion that I was imagining it and to put saline in her nose if it happened again (I'm not stupid it was NOT congestion).

I agree with the others. I'd stop the vaccines. You can always delay them, but with an issue already, i wouldn't continue them. The Chemicial in vaccines are terrible for the human body.

You can always delay them,  but you can't take them back once it's done..Have you gotten any closer to a decision?

I wouldn't put your child at any further risks with vaccinations. Why would you need to talk the Dr into it? You are the parent, you have the final say and what you say goes. The simple fact that vaccines are associated with fevers and those fevers could cause more siezures would be enough reason not to vaccinate.

Ohio is a very easy state to get exemptions b/c they have a philosophical one in addition to medical and religious.  There's no need to vax to get them into school or anything else in OH...

Talked it over with DH. We're not going to do any vaxes for him. Thanks for all of the input. I may be able to get the doctor to write a med waiver for the DTaP, but I doubt he will for the others, so I'm just going with the philosophical waiver for his preschool record. He'll be homeschooled for kindergarten next year and it won't really be an issue then.
