I swear Im so irritated right now.. Ive made the decision to not vaccinate my dd anymore and everytime it comes up with my mom or sister we get into a fight where im having to repeat the same info over and over again and they refuse to even read the things Ive printed out... Im going to stick to my decision no matter what and it is my child and my decision but i hate the way they make me feel like im neglecting my dd and im not... do you ladies have family that doesnt agree?? if so how do you handle it?

my  mom knows and didnt get it at first but i gave her lots of info and she doesnt say agree...but she supports my decision as a parent.

i say just dont talk about it.  if it comes up just change the subject...or dont bring it up.

Yes, I have 2 sisters (that are twins, so I have ALWAYS been ganged up on) who don't have kids.  I really try not to get into it with them b/c until they have kids, they just don't know.

I tell them there is a lot of research regarding all vaccs and not vaccinating my baby is a well educated and thought-out decision.  And it helps when recent vaccs are recalled b/c I can use them as examples to back my decision.

I'm fortunate in that my family is respectful of my decisions whether they agree with me or not, because they know I do a lot of research and have good reasons behind my conclusions.  Sometimes it can be a challenge though.  I've found that when I'm in a situation where I keep having to repeat myself like that because the other party is not open minded, the only thing that I can do is walk away.  It works well, it at least seems to let them know that if they aren't going to listen to me, I'm not going to listen to them.

Good luck!

My mom is the one who got me thinking about vaccinations, so she is behind my decision on not vaccinating 100%, her mother ( I don't consider her a grandma) is "proud" of me for not vaccinating. My dad doesn't agree with it however he just cares that his grandbabies are being taken care of and are healthy, when he first found out he put in his two cents on the deal and that was that because he knew it is pointless to argue with me on something like this, i don't know how his wife feels about it....I don't think she agrees with me however she has never said anything about it. My younger brother and his girlfriend say more power to ya, my older brother and his girlfriend don't agree with my decision. My oldest brother whos in prison actually agrees with me and sent me a book on vaccines for christmas....didn't know they had that kind of access in prison but whatever. I honestly don't give a crap if someone in my family doesn't agree with me about my decision or not. When it all boils down to it, the decision is MINE no one elses. I'll let them give me their 2 cents, however its not going to change my mind. Until someone can prove that vaccines are 100% safe I wont change my mind! I'm glad that I have a supportive family for the most part, and supportive friends too!! I noticed that a lot of my friends and family don't care what I do with my son as long as he is happy and healthy and well taken care of! In all honesty I think thats all that should matter anyways, not if you vaccinate or not!

I am SO lucky, my mom is 100% behind me. My grandmother (on my biological dad's side) doesn't agree, but her youngest "child" is 46 or 47 years old. I am completely sure of my decision, and won't let others closed mindedness change my choice. Good for you for not letting them change yours either.

I just try to avoid the subject. A good friend told me that before it ever even came up. She said 'tell as few people as possible!' That said, I'd like to inform people--to let them know that they have a CHOICE. But every time you talk about it, you open yourself up to criticism from those who don't (and refuse to) understand.

Difficult situation. Stick to your guns, mama!

The funny thing is, it was my 70 year old mother who first brought up the topic to me! she said she didn't think it was a good idea to vaccinate a baby and was not happy when i did do the 1st rounds of vaccinations. The problem was i didn't know about this site and i thought i didn't have a chioce, NOW I KNOW!!! No more vaccines. My mom raised 8 kids and back then we only got the DTP and polio. None of us died of the measles, mumps or ruebella or chicken pox, etc...I've had nothing but support from my family and my DH.  I'm glad. i couldn't take it if i had to defend myself against my family and the dr.
