Flu vaccine and immunity

So we have chosen not to vaccinate our kids, which means we also stopped (I've only had it once) getting the flu shot ourselves.  The past several years we have all gotten the flu (our kiddos are a newbie and a 3y/o).  My husband, who is a little on the fence about not vaccinating anyways, has been sick again this year.  He's decided he's going to get it next year, and in a way I can't blame  him.  I won't and our kiddos won't, but it makes me wonder.  Don't get me wrong, I know all the nasty things about the vaccines, and that the flu shot is really a guessing game, but what gives?  Why has he, esp. been so sick the past few years with the stomach bug and the flu?  It just doesn't make sense, he gets the vaccine and he's healthy all year, and then he doesn't for several years and every year he's sick!  Makes me question the whole decision, I won't vaccinate them but still makes me think.  Anyone have any thoughts for me?

I think that a lot of people, myself included, have made our decisions to not vax not because of the diseases that are vaxed against, but because of all the preservatives that the manufactures put into the vaxes.  They really are what do the majority of the damage to the kids.  The heavy metals and other stuff that they think is necessary to pump into our kids is really scary.  The flu shot is one that really is a crap shoot though.  With all the strands of flu that roll around companies basically throw a dart at a dart board to pick which strands they are going to vax for each year.  I feel that bombarding an infant's body with a bunch of diseases really does more damage than good.  You can only tear down an immune system so far before it will be damaged forever.  I think that if I were to vax at all I would do so much later in life, so the body had time to build up immunities naturally, which makes it more reselient to diseases naturally.  I  was never vaxed as a child, and until I was enlisted in the Navy, was very seldom sick.  Since joining the navy I have had their run of shots that they require, and now have chronic tonsilitis, tendon problems in my hands, kidney stones, gallbladder stones, and a few other issues.  Now, I can't say that they are all a result of the shots the Navy gave me, but I really feel like my health had declined since I got them.  Just my 2 cents.  Hope it makes sense. :)

There are a lot of reasons as to why your hubby may be more susceptible to the flu.  Immunity does not come from shots alone, there are a ton of more efficient and safer ways of keeping healthy.  Good nutrition, ample water intake, and a healthy life style are musts.  If he is eating poorly and/or overly stressed and/or  not getting enough sleep etc. then his body will not be strong enough to fight off infection.  Vitamin C and zinc are great for preventing and fighting infection, ecinacea is great once he is sick, and astragalus is a wonderful herb that can be taken daily to strengthen the immune system if he feels he needs a little help (he should stop taking this the second he thinks he's getting sick and start with the eccinacea).  I'm sorry he is sick, I'm sure you are both so frustrated right now.

Good luck!

Something to keep in mind is that there are viruses and bacterias around all of the time that can make us sick.  When we get sick it's because like the other post said we aren't getting enough sleep, eating properly, etc.  So our body is dealing with other stresses and strains and cannot fight off whatever 'bug' you come in contact with.  The flu vaccine contains 3? strains of the flu that is thought to be the most prevalent this year. There are many more strains than that!  Something like Elderberry can help the immune system and fight off the flu.  Just be sure if you take something on an on going basis that you rest from it once in a while.  Good luck!
