  • there are loads of BGH(bovie growth hormones make the cows mature and thus produce milk faster and in larger quantities) and antibiotics in most milk. UNLESS is specifically states that it is free of those things,  you are putting artificial hormones and anatibiotics in  your system which can  result in drug resistant illness and other problems. Alot of people recommend antibiotic and BGH free dairy and meat as those are the biggest offenders as far as food is concerned.

  • Cow's milk is hard to digest by a large percentage of the population.  Its been said that a good amount of abdominal and non-abdominal maladies can be traced to a milk sensitivity, and not just to the lactose.  Your digestive system is unique, nobody else has the exact same chemical makeup.  I used to drink milk, not whole milk though.  All my life I have had signs of IBS like cramps, gas, bloating, etc.  When I eliminated dairy from my diet those problems went away.  My daughter (4mo.) already has a milk allergy.  I just don't like the taste anymore, either.

  • In a tiny little nutshell:

About the hormones: they are pumped into the cows for growth and extra milk production, they get into our systems and our children develop early and have other problems.

About antibiotics: the extra pumping can cause infection so the cows are pumped full of antibiotics. They get into our system and can royally screw up our immune and other body systems.

About milk in general: it is designed to grow baby calves into huge, fat cows. Humans don't need that kind of nutrition and it can be damaging because the human body is not made to digest it. It causes lots of problems.

    I hope this helps!

  • The only reason to drink milk is for the calcium benifit. It is not a healthy thing to drink.  Like the last response, I agree.
Cows milk is for baby cows!!!! Human milk is for human babies!
There are plenty of ways to get the recommended amount of calcium in your diet other than drinking cows milk.

  • You actually do not need milk at all.I took both of my kids off milk completley(my dd just weaned off formula).I use rice milk for cooking and that;s it.

They get thier calcium form yogurt, cheese, cottage, cheese, and things like that.

Avacodos are a great way of making sure they are getting the right fats.

I think you need to research it a little further. To me, the government says its good to have. Well, they also say we should vaccinate. Not to mention the other thing they say we should do. How long ago did you stop nursing. you may want to check with a lactation consultant, b/c you can restart your milk after weaning in some cases (depending on the length of time).  Even still, 13 months is great and you should give yourself a big pat on the back!

Yes but they are easier to digest and are not so hard on your stomach, and bodies. We feed them organic though :-)

Calcium can be found in all sorts of natural foods like leafy greens, etc.  You don't need milk products at all.  The über proteins in milk actually extracts calcium from our bones and contributes heavily to osteoperosis.

Avocados are amazing all around, I absolutely agree with this.

Another thing that yogurt is good for are the probiotics, or live cultures.  These can been found in soy yogurt or as supplements.  I bring this up because if OP does decide to give up dairy these are the three things that you need to pay extra attention too.

    Good luck!
