Has anyone here caught the show Moonlight?  I saw the ads for it before it came out and thought cool a vampire show. I started to watch it and in the very first episode, I noticed a lot of similarities with the Angel series, A LOT as in its the same friggin show. It's about a vampire in L.A. who is a private detective, who runs around town saving humans from evil vampires, and the latest story line has his sire, who he killed, coming back from the dead as human and tormenting him. Um OK am I wrong, or dose this sound like a pathetic attempt to copy Joss? The more I watch the more like Angel the show becomes, and it's really starting to tick me off. It's like they took one of the shows I loved and ruined it. He is such a wimpy vamp, he is constantly getting knocked out and staked ( a stake paralyzes a vamp on this show) and he doesn't even vamp out cool, his eyes change color and his k9's get longer. oh so scary! OK now that I have completely outed myself as as Buffy "Trekkie", I am going to crawl back under my rock.

I've seen it too and it's horrible.  I mean the guy is in love with a girl he's watched since she was four.  That's icky. And what's with sleeping in a freezer?  I can't stand this.  Vampires can walk around in the daylight and get staked and be fine?  That's wrong.  And isn't he only like 60 or something?
He got beat up and nearly killed by a newly risen vamp.
I've noticed a lot of rip offs from BtVs and Angel too.  And not just that vampires seem to have a thing for pushy blondes.

I just watched the last 4 episodes online because I had nothing else to do, lol.  I got about half way through the first one (which was episode 4 or 5 in the season) and noticed the similarities right away and I've only seen about 20 episodes of Angel.

I like it for what it is.  I try not to compare it and see the differences.  Plus it has Jason Dohring (Joesph) in it and I love him and was so mad Veronica Mars got cancelled.  I find the voice over (a la old detective movies) distracting.  If the show needs commentary then they need to work on the plots some (or the dialogue or the acting or something).

I guess I'm one of the few people who enjoys the series, then. Incidentally, it was created by David Greenwalt, who worked on BtVS and Angel. That could explain any similarities - but vampire mythology only slightly varies from culture to culture, too. If you start comparing every vampire series or movie with every other thing on the market, they all begin to look the same.

I do think it's a little weird for Mick to have feelings for Beth, but it's not like he's actively trying to pursue her. He's trying to stay away from her, in fact. But since we're comparing Mick and Angel....at least the age gap between Mick and Beth is smaller than the one between Angel and Buffy.

I guess Mick/Beth doesn't bother me so much because they're only about thirty years apart, and my father's parents were twenty-eight years apart. If two people are willing to make a relationship work, I don't think age makes too much of a difference.

I never said I didn't like the series I said it made me mad. I watch it every week as I am a loyal vampire fan I just think that they've ripped off the series, and it's very obvious. I never seen or heard of another series about a private detective vampire who helps humans in L.A. other than Angel, if there are more i will gladly check them out.

There was a series called Forever Knight that was pretty good.  I was adapted from the movie of the same name starring Rick Springfield.

I have that on DVD, LOL!

I was really excited when I saw "moonlight" promoed, but after the first couple of episodes I lost interest.  The only thing that excited me about it was Jason Dohring- I'm another ticked off VM fan, that was the best show since Buffy (and the Buffy alum helped) and I was so upset when it was cancelled, and on a cliffhanger!!!  Sorry, had to rant.....anyways, I agree with the majority here.

I've watched a few episodes of Moonlight and that was the main reason why, lol.  I loved Jason Dohring on VM.  Logan was my favorite character.  Whah!  I miss Veronica Mars.  I need to go buy season 3 so I can have the complete set (there are actually a couple of episodes I missed because it was coming on at the same time as House and my husband recorded House instead of VM).

Yeah, I loved Logan too.  Didn't it really tick you off when they broke them up and then ENDED the series there!!!  I needed another season so they could finally stay together!   Grrr...argh!
