After a six-year hiatus, we may finally be getting more of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this time as a feature film. According to reports from ShowbizSpy.com, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the teenaged vampire hunter for seven years on television, is in talks to reprise her role as Buffy Ann Summers in a film sequel to the series.
Insider reports say that the idea for the script has the story picking up with an older Buffy, who might even be a mother. The report further says that while Gellar is currently busy with other projects, she is excited about the idea. "Buffy still has a huge fan-base," the insider says "So this is a movie that already has an audience." It is further pointed out that "Michelle is a shrewd businesswoman so the chances are this will happen at some point."
Ironically, this wouldn't be the first time that the character of Buffy has appeared on the big screen. Years before Buffy the Vampire Slayer came to television sets, there was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie starring Kristy Swanson. The film was mostly ignored by the television series - and by fans of the series - although the first episode of the show suggests that the events of the movie at least partially happened for the version of the character played by Gellar.
If a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie does happen, it would mark the second time that one of Joss Whedon's shows has lived on in film form, the first happening with Serenity, which was the film follow-up to the critically successful, but commercially unsuccessful Firefly. Of greater speculation is how much of the cast of the show would be available for the film, with most of the other cast members busy with their own television shows (Alyson Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother, David Boreanaz on Bones and Eliza Dushku on Dollhouse).
I hope this is for real. I continue to read about BUFFY through the season 8 comics, as well as season 6 of ANGEL in the comics. The movie will only work if the original cast and Whedon are involved. If it wasn't for BUFFY & ANGEL Hannigan, Boreanaz, and Dushku wouldn't be where they are now. As for Gellar, she NEEDS to do this. It's the only way she'll boost her career again.
I'm surprised. Every time SMG has been asked if she would consider doing Buffy again, she always claims she isn't interested. I hope it is for real as well.

At last years com-icon reunion they asked her if there was going to be a Buffy movie she replied they were waiting to see how the sex and city movie did @ the box office and if sex and the city did well they were going to look into doing a Buffy movie and everyone there including SMG sounded very excited about doing a movie even Charisma Carpenter even thought her character is dead, but hey not the first time they brought back a dead Buffy character!
Ummmm . . . what would SMG do instead? Another Scooby Doo movie? COME ON SARAH!! We miss you!!
That would be so freakin' awesome! Although i'd rather have another 7 seasons than just one 2 hour movie..... here's hoping.......
It sounds like they want to do it right. No lame substitute actor twins or anything. I'll take a two hour movie over nothing!
Quoting jazztastic:
I read in a TV Guide article about shows coming to the big screen and they asked Joss if he was doing a BtVS movie and he said, "No chance in hell."
I hope that's not true. And personally, I'd love to see Oz return. He was my favorite.
I was just going to say the exact same thing. I don't think they'll every do a BtVS Movie, sadly, I would love to see it, but I just don't think it's gonna happen.
(Oz was my favorite too. *smile*)

I would love to see a movie too.. but I don't think I'd like to see something in the far off future. If they are going to do it at all (and I'll wait till I see a blurb about it in one of the comics strait from Joss or his teams mouth) I'd rather they followed the comics and continue that storyline.
But the comics are so good,I feel like I watched an episode after I read each one so I'm not dying for a Buffy/Angel fix.. I already have it.. haha
Awww, well... maybe we got our hopes up for nothing. Why would he say "no chance in hell?"- that doesn't seem right. Maybe I'll have to check out the comics. I miss Oz too. Willow is annoying when she gets all cocky... she was way better with Oz.
And btw, Cordelia didn't "die" exactly. She ascended to become a higher being, right? She could totally come back for a visit as a higher being, couldn't she?
