He's ruining my life, STILL

Yesterday, while cruising Craigslist in my crazy "looking for a place to move" thing I've been doing for almost a year, I came across a crazy deal. A good apartment complex was offering a deal, no credit check and no deposit! All you need to move in is 1st month's rent, a job that makes twice the rent, and no judgments on you from this company. I'm set! I raced over, checked it out, and filled out an application! I was good to go, just waiting on them to check if I have any judgments from them, and I've never had an apt in my name so I know I'm good to go. I'm so excited I'm too scared to be excited! FINALLY, things are going my way, right? I even got the new address!

Hah. Wrong. They called me today at lunchtime. HE has a judgement against him from this company, and it made it's way to my credit because we're not divorced yet. I asked what I could do, if I paid it off could I still rent? See I have a deadline, I have to move in on the 11th, or lose the deal. They said yeah sure here's the number, but it's over $500. But my pro-rated rent is over $500. And I don't have enough money to pay both. I almost cried right there at work, he's always weasling his way into everything I try to do for my kids, he's toxic. He only has a place to live because his teenage girlfriend put their place in her name, so he wouldn't have to pay off his own damn debt. So if I manage to pay off the debt and pay the rent, it comes off of his credit too. Effin pile of steaming crap. I have to see him in court tomorrow, because he's not paying child support, and I'd rather not look at him right now. I'm so angry, and frustrated

is there a way that you can show them the credit report or something? let the judge know that you HAVE to pay off HIS debt in order to better the lives for you and your children and maybe the judge can just add it to his CS payments? i mean- you may never see it really, but at least it'll still be against him...?

No I don't think so. I'm paying off HIS share of our DD's medical expenses, and even tho it's ordered in our child support agreement that he pay 50%, the judge doesn't give a shit.

Yes, it would come off his credit too. It sucks. I paid off a judgement from my ex and he got the benefit of not having to pay a dime to get it off his credit.

Ugh thanks, I'm not sure what to do here. I've got 14 days to come up with all this money, or walk away. I got paid today but because my son was in the ER I couldn't work and it was only a $300 check. ARGH!!!

Did you do your taxes yet? If so pay it off and take note of it being his debt and take him to small claims court for it if you can prove it's his debt and not yours. If the judge asks you why you paid it, just tell her you had to move and unless it was paid they wouldn't rent to you.

No I'm not doing taxes this year and the cost to take him to court would totally make it worthless
