Snopes.com has debunked this urban legend. They said that although it's low-tech enough to actually be used by thieves, there are no wide spread reports of this happening. Also, if you are parked in a parking spot at a store, don't you usually walk past the rear of your car (or close to it) and wouldn't you see a flyer on your back windshield? And if you're parked so that you just have to drive out of the space and not back up, you won't even notice the flyer. There are no documented cases of this actually happening anywhere in the country.

Also, according to Snopes, this e-mail was inadvertantly forwarded on by a member of the Illinois State Police (he forwarded it to his daughters without checking it out and his official work signature was attached to the message. It has been added to the e-mail in some areas, although where he works has been changed down the road).

You can check out what else Snopes has to say about this one at http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/carjack.asp. Please, in the future, when you get e-mails like this, go to snopes.com and check them out before sending them on. I've seen a lot of those passed along here at CafeMom and all they do is get a bunch of women hysterical over nothing.

Yeah i have heard about that and being a mom its scary all the things you have to watch out for. Where i live not to long ago a mom stopped to get gas and someone got in her car and drove off {her kids still in the car} luckily she got her kids back fast.  My parents use to tell me to trust police and etc and now i can't even trust them fully. So what do you tell your kids now of days?  Such a sad world we live in where people get robbed, killed over stupid things.  Everyday its something else you have to watch your back for.
