When I lost my job, I also lost my insurance. Before it ran out I went for my yearly women exam. They called me back and said that my pap was abnormal and I would have to get a colop. done. Well I have no insurance now, so I was thinking of going to Planned Parenthood and using thier woman's services. I know that my academic advisor in college use to use it to get BC but thats it as far as people I know. She would only pay like 20 bucks for it or something like that....anyhow...my ? is: Experiences? Cost? Any advice?

Go back to your Gyno and they should be able to refer you to places that will do the tests for free or for low cost.

My sis goes there for her meds too. I've looked into using them now that my stbx lost the medical insurance that covered my kids and I. Here in Nashville, they have a website with all the things they do, cost is dependent on each person. Look them up, and call and ask, no harm with that. I think they try to see if you qualify for some kind of medicare, at first.

Yeah i always went to them for gyno appts since i was 17, they were the closest place to me. (I never even knew they were mainly for abortions until i joined CM) Even when i had a UTI i went there and the DR gave me a prescription. If you have no insurance and no job its free to get a pap. I even went when i had insurance, I went to them for about 7 years straight.

Now see, I'm the opposite. I always thought it was just for abortions. You learn something new every day!

Planned Parenthood is NOT just for abortions and never have been. They are a lowcost alternative for women to get reproductive health services. Some Planned Parenthoods are not even allowed to mention abortions...they can lose federal funding if they do so.  I know many women that have been going to them for Paps for YEARS. I know one lady that has been going to them for over 20 years. You can NOT belive everything you hear about Planned Parenthood on CM. Some people give false information. I know for certain that the Planned Parenthood in my city does NOT do abortions and never has. I asked.

I get my BC from PP and got a Pap. They will put you on a sliding scale if you're a student.

I went there a long time ago and it seemed ok.  They charge you based on what you make so it is cheap.

Ive gone. I was getting about 1100 in child supprt a month and they used that as income and I paid 2.00 for my exam bc pills and all the tests they require.. I also had 2 kids. So its not that expensive to go. Now I have WHP and dont pay anything that pertains to girly stuff..exams paps tests any and everything. Im in Tx. Id check to see if your state offered that program..

Now the clinic itself wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. She was very friendly and I had a consultation before I had the actual exam. Its clean. Id go back if I had to. Now the only downfall for me was they only offer certain brands of bc pills..So i called my regular doc and had them prescribe me something else..

It's completely and totally based on what YOU make so there's no exact number any of us can give you on the price, but they will make it affordable for you. Good luck!
