Hi ladies - I am used to traveling with my dughter alone, but as she is now a TEENAGER - it gets a little more difficult. We'll be on a cruise ship soon and just me and her - any advice on togetherness without cell phone texting, facebook and her girlfriends? (Yes, they have a teenager hangout spot, but she is a bit shy + I want to hang, but it's not "cool" to hang with mom - YIKES)
It's a Disney Cruise - and yes, there will be many options, but it seems everything is geared to families.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
Also, do fun things with her! When you 'dock' and you go onto the islands she'll hang out with you for sure (or I'd assume so)! Maybe buy matching necklaces... get her hair braided on one of the islands. Have fun 'drinks' with her on the beach. Go snorkeling! There are fun things to do at each destination.
As far as the cruise ship- you'll also be amazed at how much their is to do! Make your 'agenda' every day at breakfast! Ask her what she wants to do... but keep in mind that maybe she'll want SOME time to herself each day. Which is fine- you could have alone time, too. Just give a certain time to meet back up again!
Good luck and have fun on the cruise!!!
Even though my son is only 7 I took my teenage brother on vacations with me all through his teen years.
When we went on a cruise I went online beforehand and had him choose what activities he wanted to do when we when we stopped. Much to my chagrin he chose scubadiving for one of them (I am scared of the ocean going on a cruise was already a stretch for me!), we went swimming with dolphins (again one of the scariest things I've done in my life! Dolphins are big fish that want you to think they're cute and cuddly until they eat your legs!!!) .
While we were on ship we got our teeth whitened together which was actually a ton of fun and if I would have been able to afford it we would have done some more spa treatments. I think the spa treatments would be a great mother/daughter activity. There is usually shows and entertainment that go on as well, we went to a few shows on the ship, those were a lot of fun. Also do you guys like working out? My brother and I spent quiet a few hours in the gym and on the top deck where they had a track. I usually like to work out alone but it was nice having a little motivational person beside me.
I'm sure you guys will have a great time, have fun!
But look at the Disney Cruise activities options together with your daughter and see which one she likes.

The last cruise I went on we could barely get cell reception, anyways, as it was mainly out of country waters. So, where is your cruise ship going?

Going to Bahamas. Already been, so not doing excursions this time (went with large family group) - this time just me & her). LOVE your ideas - matching necklaces - perfect! Fun drinks together - yes!
We did the snorkeling thing together last time - just me and her actually - it was fun!! The water kept sending us out to sea though - but fun!
This time, money is tight - I just lost my job - but luckily cruise & airline tickets were prepaid for - I'll have smaller budget, but those things you mentioned like making agenda together - great idea! I'm feeling less anxious already!!

Teeth whitening would be neat - good idea. This time however, I will have to select less costly items. I had two spa treatments reserved, but had to cancel because I lost my job 3 weeks ago. But I see that the fitness center is free. She's into cheerleading competition - so I will see try the activity thing with her...that would be a great time to introduce a gym. Thanks for mentioning that! (And heck - I need it too - exercise).

The Disney Cruise is geared to families and younger kids. Next time when you look at cruises, pick the cruises based on the best activities.

Yeah, we go to Disney World every year, so I was looking for something different - I chose a cruise this time. We do love the Disney theme, but just curious if anyone who had traveled with one teenager alone would have advice...for activities...she looks forward to the water slide and pool. I know we will enjoy, but I look forward to any tips to help me think outside the box a little.
I can't wait to get her to myself - without the distractions from the world ~ hee hee!

Just be careful!
Keep in touch with her and keep in contact. The workers on those boats are looking for young and naive flesh!
Yeah, I heard about that kind of thing on TV news. It makes me NOT want to be so free with her. They have neat wave phones in the rooms that are like walkie talkie's - so I might test them out a little.
Hi and welcome to the Single Moms Group. Have fun on the trip.
