I gave her a $1 tip

First time in my life I had a bad server. I took a friend out to Applebees for his birthday. All our server did was take our order. Good thing we knew another server and he gave us the things that we needed like a fork, knife, steak sauce, our food, drinks, etc. When we asked her for something, she asked the guy we knew to get it for us. No she wasn't a manager, she was a newbie. So, when the check came I gave her $1 tip. My friend the birthday boy is who is a cab driver is giving the server who didn't have help but still did a discount on a ride home.

But I still had a good time.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Tips are earned, she obviously didn't earn a good one.

I used to be a server and if you didn't get service you shouldn't tip

I've had a few bad servers who weren't even newbies, so I understand where you're coming from. Once when I was pregnant, myself and a small group of us went to ruby tuesdays and left so unsatisfied! It was a total of 4 of us, I'll never forget this. A friend of mine ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, another ordered something similar, and myself and my brother ordered an identical order of beef sliders with mustard, ketchup, no onion and no mayo, extra cheese, and a side of fries. The sliders were ordered well done, they were received med-well, had mayo and onion, no cheese! I looked at that crap like WTF?! I was like 7 months pregnant and famished! We had the guy take the order back 2x and he never got it right! Finally a manager came out, we explained the situation and he didn't charge us for the food (we didn't even eat!) He only charged us the drinks (specialty iced teas/lemonades) and no one left a tip... Horrible experience! We ended up going to some drive-thru for food on the way home

Hey! I used to be a server, too! Haha it can be tough, but there's no excuse for giving poor service. That was my motto as a server, and I still feel that way. I'm a big tipper when I get good service, well above the 15%

I usually give a nice tip. I've never been a server, but I have friends and family who have been servers, so I have an idea of the work and ppl they come across.

But it was just horrible service. At one point we had to leave the table to look for her. Smh.

That's a damn shame! She's lucky she got a dollar. Had that been me, I wouldve left crumbs

I had a simliar experience a few years back when I took 2 of my younger sisters out for lunch one day. Our waiter was awful!! He took our order and seemed nice enough, but after he took our order he barely spoke two words to us.  Didn't ask if we needed anything, didn't ask how everything was, no refill on drinks, etc. When he brought the check he didn't even say anything then! He just put the check on the table and walked away.

I left him a "tip" alright, but not a monetary one. I left a nice little note on the back of our check about how it was the worst service I had ever experienced and would not be returning to the restaurant anytime soon!

Haha my friend, the birthday boy, wanted to do the same thing. He said a dollar was too much. He was going to write a nice little note on front of the check. LoL. I stopped him and said "Let's be nice."

If I had a server that bad I don't think I would have left anything...

i had the same thing happen on Tuesday. My son and I went to a local Grill-- they usually have such good service, and the food is pretty good. My son and I split their chicken fried chicken. Well, I guess the server decided since we ordered water and were splitting our meal, our table wasn't worth the effort. He never brought out our appetizer, never once asked how we were doing (my son wanted ketchup, and I wanted salt & pepper, and I had to get it for myself) then he just walked past the table with his head down and put the check face down. It was Valentine's day, I WAS going to order dessert for my kiddo and I but instead I just paid the stupid check and left. (after finally getting his attention to take the appetizer off the bill).

I didn't go to Chili's because I like supporting local businesses, but it really pissed me off (he was very attentive to the 3 other tables in my area, btw-- so I don't think it was the business of the day-- I think it was that he didn't see much potential for a tip)
