Im 34 weeks pregnant right now with my 2nd. With my first I was with the father and honestly thought we would end up married and have a happy family. I gave her his last name. Fast forward 2 years and her dad is a deadbeat. Now Im faced with the task of naming this little girl. (Different dad) He seems interested. But I have seen first hand how he is with his 5 year old son. Basically hit or miss. And tries to get out of paying child support every chance he gets. I regret giving my daughter her dads last name because he nor his family have anything to do with her. And I really do not want to make the same mistake twice. Does anyone know the legal aspect of this situation? Or just experience and advice? I live in Indiana if that helps...
my sons father and I were right there at the records department where we filed to get our son's official birth certificate....he didnt want our son to have his last name so I gave him mine (shrugs) ...we werent married...it was whatever to me....THEN after we had to go through court for custody and support he tells this judge that he wants our son to have his last name...the judge was just like "we dont do that here"..lol... to this day he hasnt done the leg work to change our sons last name...and honestly....my answer is NOPE!..our son is carrying MY family name..he had his chance.. the end!.
I wasn't married and refused to have my son have a different last name than me, thankfully there is no fight from the donor, he threw a little hissy fit but quickly resigned because take 100% care of him so he has no say.
Even if I get married now I won't change my name unless my sons changes too. I refuse to ever have a different name than him.
