Who would you vote for and why?
FYI: NO BASHING
LET ME REPEAT. NO BASHING.
READ AGAIN. NO BASHING.
Quoting 5BMom:
I do not think the poor should be pitied...and I agree they need help...i give plenty of money to private charities (food bank, shelter for abused women, wounded warriors, red cross, etc...). It was never intended for the government to take care of the needy.
On the note of giving, I also give to political candidates. I attended a Romney fundraiser at $400 a head last August here in town, then decided to support Newt, became his central idaho coordinator, gave him money...and now will back Romney. I have also run for public office and am doing so now... And am dealing with law changes in my State. I work hard to initiate change...I don't just sit on my ass on CM and bitch and moan.
Quoting MamasaurusPrime:If you don't pity the poor, best do what you can to keep your ass out of that situation. You are, afterall, in a single mom group.
Think statistics.
Quoting Chanel5nyc:People are confusing. They want healthcare but they don't want to pay for it and/or don't want to pay for other people. But if there is a news story about a young kid who has no health insurance and dying, people want to help.
Also, people want "free" health care, free childcare, free colleges, like Canada (only free healthcare) and other European countries. But guess what, their taxes are high. Nothing in life is free.
Bottom line, Americans are living longer. One reason is because of health care. No health care equals more deaths. Plain and simple.
I live in MA so I have Romney's stupid forced health care. I'm disabled and young. But I worked enough hours in my life that I already paid for it. Barely but I did it. It's not very difficult. I was a full-time student until I was 20. And I was unemployed for 6 months at 21. I'm in my mid-30s. I still pay for a portion of it.
So, I'm not seeing why people have such a hard time paying for insurance and such. Please know that I am not referring specific people... There are circumstances out of our control but I'm talking about the large majority, who do not have extenuating circumstances.
Even though these programs help my son and I (and I know I need them and am not abusing them and neither are many others), I actually agree with many of the statements to limit these but only to prevent the abuse. Not keep those who need it from it though.
I have a friend from Canada, she says taking the kids to the dr was a pain in the butt!!
Romney has my vote. He hasn't been too bad in MA and I feel Obama is freaking crazy. He scares me. Oh, and he made my life hell these past couple of years, pulling programs that support multiple sclerosis and not increasing ssdi for 2 years. That really hurt my son. I'm not crazy about good ole mitt especially since my exhubby adores him! ;)
Well blame the great depression and President Roosevelt for Americas social welfare programs.

Have you ever handed homeless people money yourself? Like, a real homeless person? What about the poor?
What about a young mother of 2 or 3 who is almost on the verge of tears because baby is screaming, toddler is being a little shit, face full of snots and not even a proper winter coat, and she is scrounging for bus change in -45 weather?
I have done both. I don't give to charities because I am pretty skeptical about where the money is going. My university does an annual "5 Days for the Homeless" where they play cute and camp out at UC (university center) and take whatever change people have. The organization they do it for, RaY, I go to their office and give them their money myself.
As for the bitching and moaning, you ARE on CM, bitching about how the government should not help the poor.

Ngi ne themba - I have hope.
Romney will cut more programs. Just because you work here and there, you depend on the government. If Romney is president the stupid health plan you don't like will be nationwide. So, why would you vote for him? It makes no sense.

I really don't like Obama. :)
I think Romney is the lesser of two evils. Did he say he was going to cut ssdi? I must have missed that. I'll have to google it.
I was under the belief that even Romney didn't like his own healthcare reform. And Obama would definitely have one. I'm not going to change my insurance either way... I have to have it. But that doesn't mean I can't think the act is stupid. :) my ex-husband is the perfect example. It would be cheaper for him to pay for the doctors (or whatever) every 5-7 years than have insurance. It would mean more $ for my son probably.
