Am I a single mother?

Slightly confused about the term "single mother." I am not married, but I live with my daughter's father (my boyfriend) and his parents. They all work and I stay at home with my daughter Coraline. Her father does not offer to help with her, and rarely even holds her unless I make him. He does buy her diapers and wipes, but that's it. I'm stuck feeling resentful after asking many MANY times for him to spend more time with his daughter, for her sake and mine. However, guilt sets in because he does work a full-time job.

Hi and welcome to the group.

It depends on how long you have been in a relationship with the father before or after child born.  Yes, you can be considered a single mom.  Even a married mom can sometimes feel being a single. Every mom and every father is an individual and responsible for themselves.  How you get help is the question?

You are a single mom- you're not married. And to get help MAKE him help. Don't ask, tell him. Who cares if he has a fulltime job, he's still the father and needs to help out. I have a fulltime job and go to school no one gives me a break. There are a lot of single moms in this group in the same situation.

Technically you aren't, but you might as well be. I would be on my way.

I count it as not being single. Gay people cant get married (in some states) but we do not consider them single
Id say it depend how long you have been together and if he helps out

Does this count for everyone or just mothers?
What about people who are together for 20 years but do not get married because of personal beliefs?
Does it count when the boyfriend splits the costs?
