Idea from a MC post...Do you harbor any survival skills?

I mean real skills, like being able to make a fire without matches or fuel, can you hunt? Do you know how to make your OWN weapons? Are you bush-savvy?

I can. I posted that I'm "bushed out" lmfao. I grew up hunting, trapping and fishing. Not living in a teepee or igloo lmfao. I can actually shoot a ptarmigan in the head with a bow and arrow. I have only fired a shotgun twice, and I can skin a deer.

If a natural disaster occurred, do you have a stockpile ready, or prep of any sort?

I learned all the survival skills too. Made sure my kids did too. I also have enough food in my house to last a year if I had too.

Yes, I have many survival skills.

I don't currently have a stockpile, but DH and I are working on aquiring one.  We DO have a set of friends who have an ample stockpile and we are in a "pact" with them.  They have all sorts of guns and ammunition, her DH actually makes his own bullets.  So our basic plan is we each have our own stockpile, but if things look like they'll turn bad we meet up at their house and join together.

Our biggest disadvantage is that we cannot easily make it from where we live to a "wilderness" area in which to hunt.  So hopefully the stockpile will last long enough for us to make a mobile plan and get out of the area if need be.

Ohhh yeah the bugout trails are the most crucial part. Ever watch Book of Eli? They took down that old couple's house with many a-machine gun LMAO! I was like "Damn, shoulda built a steel house!" LMFAO.

And is it just me, but does anyone notice a TON of these post-apocalyptic movies are coming out lately? I think it started with The Road in 2009, and now we're doing the Hunger Games. That's why I decided to read the series over the summer. I didn't even know the girl was savvy with an archery set and when I read it, I could relate, growing up on an isolated reservation with tons of game to hunt.

That's totally fine too. We're all built with survival instincts anyway.

I have noticed the movies and such!  it's the current fascination with people right now.  lol.

The Hunger Games is actually based off an ancient Greek philosopher, I forget which one.  But his outline for a "Utopian" society basically took into account there always had to be somebody at the bottom.  In his Utopian society, a collective of slaves makes life perfect for the rest.  In modern times, robots are the hope for this kind of society.  In the meantime, though, we have a smaller and smaller workforce paying to take care of a larger and larger non-working population.  (In the case for the US, the older generations are living longer, the disabled are cared for, etc.  These aren't bad things, but the balance isn't working out, kwim?)

I haven't seen Book of Eli.

I'm thinking that if things go bad we'll retreat to DH's home area in Michigan.  We have good sturdy vehicles that could make it through most conditions, as well as good strong men to get us out of the suburban area and onto the road.  That failing, we do have lakes, rivers, and some fields nearby, but good game isn't abundant.  Mostly fish and seasonal dear.  There are a LOT of farms and such, and depending on what goes down we could easily get food and seed from there.  There are pastures full of cows as well, but who knows what would be happening there.  I'm sure other desperate people would go for the cows, and we'd want to avoid masses of other panicking people, kwim?

I'm no good with a bow and arrow.  lol.  But, I can fish with damn near anything.  I want to learn fly fishing SO BAD!  And I can make good traps for rabbits and such.

Learn to fish with a spear. It's totally badass. I catch tons of catfish and sturgeon at the lake across from mom and dad's home on our reserve (First Nation reservation not army lmao)
