My 13-year-old went to a slumber party that turned into a nightmare. What would you do?
My 13-year-old daughter was invited to the county fair yesterday by a "supposedly" close friend, Jessie. There were three girls in all, including my daughter. Later, she texted me and asked if she could spend the night at Jessie's house, and I said okay. She has spent the night there on several occasions and the two girls get along great . . . or so I thought.
Jessie's mom just dropped her off about an hour ago. My daughter was obvously badly shaken and had been crying but refused to tell me what happened. I finally got it out of her. Last night, the two girls tied my daughter up with rope and duct-taped her mouth. Then one of them began pressure pointing her on the hip bone, causing excruciating pain, while the other girl looked on. I do not know where the parents were, but obviously, the girls were unsupervised. My daughter eventually told Jessie's dad, and he merely waved a finger at them and told them to stop. Oh, Jessie also literally ripped the duct-tape from my daughter's mouth, like you see criminals do in movies to those they are interrogating.
I am beside myself. I stood up and headed toward the door to go have a talk with Jessie's parents, but my daughter begged and pleaded for me not to. She began to cry and said, "No, Mom, don't! It's okay. I took care of it myself. Please don't go to Jessie's parents!"
I am still considering talking to Jessie's mom and the other girl's mom, although I do not know her. I do know Jessie's mom, though, and feel I could talk to her.
What would you do? Even if your son/daughter begged you not to do anything, would you still? I think my daughter is afraid of the ramifications of what might happen should I go to Jessie's parents about this. But, I am an overly protective mother when it comes to any form of abuse. And this is ABUSE, in my opinion. NO ONE has the right to do those things to my daughter. NO ONE!
