If its the first one...they will most likely put something temporary in order as far as custodial parent (Im assuming you have your child already?) and then visitation to the other parent...Usually this happens when custody is what they call "contested" meaning you both dont agree on what custody should look like...this happens alot.
This give you time to create and defend your case to the judge...they may throw in an opprotunity to mediate the terms (If dad is somewhat reasonable he will agree to at least trying it)...I would recommend mediation unless there is reason upfront as to why visitation should not happen..
If the terms cant be mediated between you and him and the mediator..then you go before a judge so he can hear and decide...
