What is a single mother?

What is your definition of a single mother?





Is it someone who is completely single/no man at all in her life?





Or is it someone who just isn't together with that child's biological father?

Someone who isn't in a romantic relationship.

I think you are a single mom even if you have a new man in your life. I think the exception is if the new man has actually been with you since the child was an infant and has completely stepped into the father role.

I've always thought of a single mom being a woman who is not married and has children

Mom who is not with/married to the father of the child for whatever reason (separated, divorce, never married,death). That's it.

This, I'm with someone but he's not my kids dad. He doesn't help me, fill in any role in their lives. I do it all myself still.

A mom who is NOT married. Hence the SINGLE mom title.

A woman who has children and is not married, whether to the father or someone else.

I think a woman with children can date, even have a steady relationship, and still be a single mother. However, if they're living together, it's more of a gray area...

Having a man in your life doesn't mean they're being that child's dad.
