Been thinking about this for a long time. My ex is a dead beat, and hasnt really been around. Yet i have a fear of him "stealing" my kids. I am sure im just being a whack job, but should i go file for full custody, just to have the papeework? Is it complicated? Any advise?

Ur def not a whack job... I feel the same way u do and i have spoken with a lawyer and family court... Idk what state ur in, im in ny and here if ur ex isnt on the birth certificate u would have to go to family court to file for a paternity test and full custody/ child support at which time he can petition back for his rights as a parent ( custody/ visitation) and it is a process dont expect it to be a quick one day at court kinda thing and its stressful but ur doing what ya gotta do for ur kid/s and thats all that matters

Yea I would . Take it from me . My ex kidnapped my kids and I didn't know where they were for over 48 hours. It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. Now I have papers I have primary custody. My ex controlled everything and this helps my peace of mind

I'm not saying don't file, but look into custody laws in your state.
It would be a total waste of money here, bc i already have custody bc we weren't married.

Georgia.
Unwed fathers have zero rights until given by the courts.
