Single Moms Single Moms

Does this bother you?

My neighbor is going to be away for two weeks for work. This morning at the bus stop his wife was saying she is going to be a "single mom" for the next two weeks.

Does it bother you when a married mother refers to herself as a "single mom"?

Yes it bothers me. It's been on my mind all day, and I decided to make a post about it.

I can understand why a wife may feel like a single mom when her husband is away for weeks at a time, but I don't think it comes close to what it is like to be a real single mom.

I am married (soon to be divorced) and in my experience being married with kids is different from being a single mother with kids.

Two weeks is NOTHING. Yeah I'd probably be caught off guard and maybe offended.

Yes that is a stupid statement. She has someone supporting her and the baby, and she lives with someone, that is not being single or close.

I might be caught off guard, but I wouldnt be offended.  I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.  She has no idea what it really means to be a single parent, but hopfully for her children's sake, that is the closest she ever comes to being a single parent.  I just wouldn't worry to much about it.  If it was a friend of mine and it really bothered me that much or was something that she said a lot, I would maybe say something and explain why it bothered me so much.

I wouldn't be offended but then again it takes a lot. Being a single mom isn't easy but I feel I have it easier than some married people do.
