My Ex is very involved in his kid's lives.

My sons father and I both have similar rules for our child at both of our houses.  It helps that we are consistant with our rules so he knows what he can and cannot do no matter which house he's at.

He'll talk to them, and supports my decisions when it comes to discipline, but he lives an eight hour drive away at the moment so he's not really involved in day to day stuff.

That's great!  It really helps when both parents (whether together or not) are on the same page when it comes to the kids.

No, not at all. When he was around, he wanted to be my son's buddy, not his dad.

Well, my daughter is too young for that just yet.

But, when she is...NO!!  I will not allow him to have any say any disciplining her since he doesn't live here.  He gets his time with her, but I'm not involved in what he does when he has her, so I'm not going to let him be involved in my time either.

Unfortunately, he's a jerk, and this is just how it is.

My son's father is more like my son's friend then father. He is either a big push over when it comes to dicipline or way over the top diciplinarian (sometimes even scared me).

My daughters father was very good at dicipline. He was never too hard or too soft. When he excercised his visitation he was a really good dad.

He says whatever I do and if it is working, thank you, he may have talks with our son reminding him and that's about it. He was the same when we were married.
