Most of the time, yes. My kids are the type to think that if it's merely a request, it's optional, and they'll opt not to do it - or to do it when they want to, rather than when I want them to. A 'please' implies request to them, so if I need them to do something, or I need them to do it right now, and it's not an optional thing (say, getting in the car to go somewhere), I won't say please. I will still say thank you, though.
