My little one is turning one on Saturday and her father and I are not together but we decided to do her birthday with both families. Unfortunately her father does not want to open up the presents in front of everyone. I agree it's uncomfortable but I think we have to do it. He is insisting we don't do it and if I do we will have issues. What the heck !? I'm confused.

It's all about personal preference. Since he feels so strongly about not doing it then I suggest you don't do it. Send out thank you cards or call everyone later after you open the gift.

Happy birthday to your sweet girl!

I don't think that is a battle worth fighting over.  Just wait to open the gifts unless a guest asks you to open their gift specifically.

Maybe, seeing as it's a 1 yr old, you can act like the party is going to be short. Just playing for a few and then ice cream and cake and then nap time. Tell them she will be opening them after her nap.

It's believable. My oldest fell asleep at the beginning of his first bday party and when I finally made him wake up after a bit (lol), he cried through his cake and stuff. I just didn't know what else to do with all those people there and waiting.

I think that at the age of 1 it really doesn't make a difference. She isn't going to remember it, at that age its a party more for you and the other adults and if there are any older kids.

A battle not worth fighting for in my opinion.

Happy birthday to your little girl!! birthday sweetpea
