My 13 year old son who for all of his life has never been able to breathe through his nose he has had his tonsils and adenoids removed also has allergy shots and has seen every specialist known to man.. Since we moved to florida in Oct. 06 he has been on antibiotics 16 times for sinus infections his PCP sent him to an ENT specialist who was rotten he told me it all has to do with his allergies and not his sinues he didn't even come into the examining room to see him he told us this all in the doorway. When we left my son started to cry saying I will never breathe or be normal will I mom? Of course I started to cry also. So as a mother you make damn sure to get a second opinion or more if need be. Well we got a second opinion and this doctor took one look at his CT scan and said OMG this boy has a spur on his nose bone, a complete obstruction on his right side nostril, a 3/4 obstruction on the left, a severe deviated septum, and they want to also do a special procedure which requires a balloon to be put under each sinus under his eyes to inflate it and allow all the fluid to drain. My son is so excited he jumped out of the chair and hugged the doctor. I too was relieved. What scares me is that I am a single mother and am so afraid for him and my other two sons who are scared for their brother I know this is what he needs. He also told me the only thing that scares him is what if he smells stuff and doesn't like what he smells. Wow if that was our only worry I told him it will be OK but he has a mother who has so much anxiety, and I just need to know this is the right thing to do. Sorry so long but don't know who else I can turn to. Thanks for any advice you can give.
