I can tell you from my experience , with my dh, that  hints do not work!!! I have tried them in the past but with no success. That being said, I do not know your boyfriend. You could try it and if you do not see any results, be more direct. Good Luck.

From my own exp., I just came right out and asked it, when. also, you may not like what you hear, I went through that and then when I figured it wasn't going to happen is when he out of no where said when and then we did. We were together 7years when we got married and a total of 9 now almost 10

Yeah I agree hints don't work. You need to say you want to get mariied and it is important to you. And see what happens. I also agree that you may not like what he says, but then you know and maybe you guys can discuss it, and at least open the convo up.
