This has probably been asked before, but what do all of you think about holidays? Do you celebrate Christian or other religious holidays?
My family isn't religious (agnostic - or at least disapproving of organized religion) so growing up, Christmas and Easter were mainly about eating chocolate and receiving gifts. That was fun, but I would like to celebrate holidays with my kids that have some personal meaning for us. I have considered "natural" holidays like the solstices, or coming-of-age holidays like birthdays or graduation, or just secular holidays like Canada Day. I guess the big Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter do have pagan roots that are usually tied to the seasons, and we could keep that in mind. Is it hypocritical to assign your own personal meaning to an established holiday?
What do you do? What is your family's favourite holiday?
